  • Thanks mate!

  • A question for Fuji X100 users - I have noticed a "bright spot" in the middle of the lens - at 1st I thought it was the reflection from the light in my room, but I have tried looking at the lens under different light conditons including sunlight, and the spot seems to be there most of the time, not all the time though. I have done some research into this last night and apperantly the lens can have unusal reflection that some other lenses won't have. It's a rather bright spot and it there when the camera is on and off, and no matter what F stop I set. I can't quite put my finger on it. Anyone's X100 got a similar "issue"?

I have called Fuji and they have sent a bag today so I can exchange it if I want to, but since I am not 100% if it's a spot on or in the lens or just some odd refelction, I am not sure if I want the trouble of returning it and having to wait for another one to arrive.

I have the same I think, and like you am not sure if its just a reflection. Also not downloaded any pics from the weekend yet but will do so tonight.

  • if its vignetting then yes there is some, I use aperture (the software) and apply the X100 profile to get rid if I am bothered

  • if vignetting, increase ISO and aperture = decrease vignetting.

Did you get a refurb unit too? I think you got 1 just before me?

Surely if it's a machnical fault, then it'd only be seen when the camera is turned on, right? It's clearly not a white spot, it's bright. Just looked at it again now new to the window in the offer, can't see the spot... I am confused... maybe I will pay Richard @ aperture a visit after work.

  • Here we go, a couple of small pics taken from my phone of the spot I mentioned. The camera was placed neare to the window with no spot light or any light source of that shape anywhere near. I am thinking it might be similar to a spot light you could get from a magnifying glass. Thoughts?

  • is it always in the same place? (as in, if you move the camera, does the spot move?)

  • It moves slightly, hence the thought of reflection of some sort. But the glass isn't flat so I am not sure if it's just an viewing angle thing. It's certainly not a coating issue like I have found some users have complained.

  • Mine doesn't seem to have a white dot like that... pretty weird.

Maybe try posting in the x100 forum (http://www.fujix-forum.com/) and see if anyone knows what it could be?

  • I spoken to Richard at aperture and he says it's probably a reflection of the shutter blades. Just took a few shots of the blue sky in the garden and looking at the lens under even sunlight (as opposed to the more contrasty sunlight tin the morning), can't seem to find the spot. There is definitely some unusual reflection still.

I guess at the end of the day, it comes with a 1 year warranty so if anything goes wrong, I can always fall back onto that.

  • whey aye. chuck a filter on (or one and a blank), forget about it and enjoy it ;)

  • I think that's a good idea! Although my OCD might struggle a bit!

  • if I were to sell my X100 with EF20 mini flash a REALLY good quality polariser how much would I get? Its less than a year's usage the shot count is well below 1000, comes with original box ..

  • ^ I thought you loved it!?

No idea on price mind... there's always classifieds on the x100 forums (link further up) maybe compare a couple? But if you can get a refurb with a years warrantee for not much (£520?) ...maybe a bit less than that?

  • i love it, just had my hands on a leica M6 yesterday and its playing tricks on my mind :D

Really? ;) Ed would probably say otherwise. Haha.

    Fuji is better.

    This is all.

  • I'd still stump for a leica if I had the spondooleys... I guess you would too Ed.

    This is all.

dear god. how can you even compare?

  • Looking for a small digital compact for my mum.

She's looking to spend >£100, what would people recommend?
The other option is that I add some more money to that pot (another £100?) to get something reasonably decent (powershot etc.) that would be pocket-able for daily use/bike trips.

Edit: Or an X10 for not much more than that?

  • Yeah,

this was the one that caught my eye:
Canon PowerShot SX220 HS Digital Camera - Grey 3.0: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

Although I think the f2 lens of the above would swing my choice

Just wondered if anyone had any first-hand ideas :)

  • I'd go S95 over that one, faster lens and same big sensor as the g12

  • recommend me a wrist strap for GF2/X10 ish camera?

  • I've made one myself with some rope, whipping twine and a small keyring to attach it to the camera. Cost peanuts and works really well. Don't have a photo but this is similar:
