V nice, Malaysian - pleasing colour and composition.

Loved it, it's quite hard to take such photo without it looking mundane and dull, but that picture is great, the colour, the shadow direction, the horizon almost in the middle, the trees on the left side etc.
Great job.

I've finally decided on getting a GF1. So before I start bidding on the dreaded ebay does anyone have one they want rid of?

My mate on FB sent me this link about a week ago, just remembered now, guy fits a 102 year old lens to his Canon 5D MkII.
Here's a couple of my favourite shots:
That last shot reminds me of Dorothy Vallans' apartment down Lincoln in Blue Velvet.

Love this, that glowing, low contrast look is awesome on the street.
I posted something similar up the thread.

Yeah I remember seeing it. There's another guy doing similair frankencamera work here http://todaystomorrow.tumblr.com/post/19109939479/the-5dmkii-view-camera The shots of the little pooch are immense as well as more foggy city shots. I'm thinking of doing something similair with maybe a macro lens but not sure as yet.

massive grass fire on mountain over the sea from me, had I known a few hours ago would have gone down to beach with epic L glass mofo lens to capture fire + sunset + beach photos.
Guess mostly down to being too lazy lolLiterally got into bed, then about 10minutes later thought, fuck it, got to go see this, so drove out onto a hill and took some shots. Then thought FUCK, left my big lens at home (400/4), not even joking, 30seconds later, car drives up hill and approachs me....
another photo person, he asks what I'm shooting, then suggests I can borrow his 300/5.6
ACE. didn't even have to go home. happens all the time when I need another lens, someone just 'pops' up. Last time it was up a mountain in peru lol.Even I have to admit its the worst photo ever, many reasons for it, mostly I think becaus I left the 'IS' on the borrowed lens turned on, which is great for 1/20th handheld shots, but nothing longer, even on a solid tripod it causes lens elements to jig around a little bit I think.
Fire was also moving pretty quick, even in 20/30minutes that I watched, it moved a fair old bit! When I left the mountain was silhouetted to the right, the moorland behind will be well alight by now and will likely burn most of tomorrow and maybe a bit longer!

It's time I have to decide if I want to expandmy camera collection to a proper digital SLR, have been borrowing the 5D mark 2 from uni and really like it. I wouldn't say I have the money readily, but could squeeze out the money for the mark 2 now ish or wait for a few months for toearn more £££ for the mark 3, but the question is, is it really worth that extra grand? Any thought on the mark 3 so far?
-
• #1792
my thoughts.....
it is not.5dii is ace, and sometimes it feels a bit expensive, but for what it does (video) its mega deal.
5diii could be better, if it was same price as 5dii then there wouldn't be a problem, but a whole extra grand? nah nikon d800 is the other FF alternative that does video? -
• #1793
Even the original 5D is still an excellent camera if you're not fussed about the video lark.
-
• #1794
5dii with L glass is sick though, shooting on high iso is such a treat

• #1795
I am also hoping some posh people will be getting their hands on the mark 3 and there might be some good 2nd hand mark 2 soon.

Or in fact, I have no real reason to stay with canon other than I know their stuff better. So am I hearing Nikon for better value?
-
• #1797
Yeah, Nikon are bargainous
When they were announced, the cameras came with retail prices of £4800 for the D4 and £2400 and £2690 for the D800 and D800E. Now, the three cameras will retail from £5290, £2600 and £2890 respectively.

having said that, I could get the canon mark 3 back home for the price of the mark 2 here, or for under £2000 for a mark 2 kit. All I have to do is to import my mum again. Shame she just left and won't be coming back till Christmas.... hummm...

Depends what your after I think.
For cheap full frame can't beat the Canon 5D1.
Canon also benefit from having the 70-200 F4 lenses. you want a pro tele zoom in Nikon you have to go F2.8 and it's a lot pricier.
Nikon CLS beats Canon flash hands down though, there's the whole compatibility thing, with about 3 exceptions any Nikon lens ever made will fit on any Nikon body ever made.
If video is your thing then I think that unless you go to a D800 then Canon has the edge, even in their cheaper bodies.

Didn't the D800 just get best sensor on the market award or summat? And, 36mp! That's insane. Plus if you do want it for video work, then you can buy some cheap Ai-s lenses for it (which are still amazing quality).
Finally got my Pentax K-x earlier this week and it's a great camera. Learning how to use a SLR again is has been a bit overwhelming initially but will I know it will be more rewarding in the long run. Now buying batteries, memory cards and alike - will be skint very soon...
Any tips for someone learning how to use a SLR again?
