Thanks, I think Rioja can take credit for both good and bad.
Getting drunk at a gig in a church is sooo much fun. -

Considering replacing my daily carry lens on the Canon 60D. Currently that's the 18-55mm kit lens which came with my 450D which hopefully justifies the upgrade. Have the 50mm 1.4 which I love, but for general use obvious limitations are obvious.
Was thinking of L-series, but none of the options seem to make much sense on a crop sensor. The 24-70 and 17-40 (both f/4) fit the budget I'd consider, but the former won't be wide enough at the bottom end, and the latter not long enough at the other.
Looking at EF-S lenses (being well aware they wouldn't work on a full size body) there's the Canon 17-85 which has great range, but despite apparently good reviews was described by the bloke in Park Cameras as one of the worst lenses Canon have ever made.
Canon also do the 17-55, which has the benefit of f/2.8 across the range. That's what the Park Camera's chap recommended instead of the above.
Then I've just discovered there's a Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4.0 which seems solid enough in terms of specs, albeit apparently compromised by off-centre softness at its widest and more CA than the Canons. Then again it's about half the price, which is not to be sniffed at.
Think I'm leaning towards the Sigma at the moment. Any opinions?

I'd prefer two or three fast, light prime lenses, but if you really want a do-everything-zoom with an extended range I'd get Canon's 18-135 STM.

i know I'm probably being really stupid....
I'm trying to enter a couple of pictures into this:
it says all entries must be 11" x 14". Now, typically does that mean it can that be portrait OR landscape??!
There's no contact..
thought bout this for #security
