Small and ultimately peaceful demo in Buenos Aires. There was a lot of unrest around that period and sometimes the guys with sticks would have a go at the riot police and everything would kick off. I was jetlagged and carrying my backpack from the airport, so I took a few (not very good) pics and decided not to hang around to see if anything would happen.

So I spoke to the Record photo desk and I've been added to the system and will be paid. 90 day payment terms though! Thanks for the help guys.

Thanks for the advice all. The demonstration was actually the "Rhodes Must Fall" march in Oxford and so was about as benign as possible - pretty small and certainly no risk of kettling nor extremist loonies kicking off. Everything I saw was very good natured. I actually had a bit less time than I'd hoped so I didn't follow them for as long as I'd hoped, nor get as close as I'd hoped but it was an interesting side of photography that I've never experienced before and perhaps an easy introduction. Not looked through the pictures yet but we'll see.

Playing with the live composite feature on the OM-D EM1. This was all in camera.
Light trails are just a head torch to do some lightpainting.

What's the building with the flare?

..hehe.
Would also be a nice image without the light painting; beautiful colours... -

The third image? It's on Oswald street, Glasgow. It's a steam spout thing but the sunset was catching it, thought it looked cool.

It would, kind of experimenting to see how well the in camera composite works and I think it's going to be lots of fun!

Like others have said, protests/demos are some of the easiest places to get up-close street-style photos of people. It's pretty much expected that there will be people taking pictures (these days, they seem to outnumber the protesters).
Just be aware of the mood and try to blend-in.
Also, keep an eye on the police – stay out of their way if it's a bit rowdy.
