The evidence says otherwise. I'll find some links...

An iPhone has a faster lens and more sophisticated sensor than a GR. It is obviously far smaller but stabilised.
So compacts over phones have...
- Traditional handling
- A reduced depth of field
- They don't start ringing when you're using them :-)
That's all, and the gap is narrowing.

Well obviously people better at taking photos are more likely to own actual cameras. Just as a good writer is more likely to own a fountain pen. It doesn't make the pen the cause.
It's incredibly easy to take a decent photo on an iPhone (no offence intended).

Friend of mine thought that I'd broken out the DSLR to take cat photographs (this is from an iPhone):

WOW! This picture is really great, not only for the light and colour but also and especially for the angle of his face, expression, lines and fuck all. Don't take it bad but I think you have been lucky.

More sophistiated sensor? It's a fraction of the GR sensor, and smears detail like a motherfucker. The photo I posted for the last challenge I couldn't have taken with an iPhone for shit. Yes, the cameras in phones are getting better, and yes, a photo taken on a phone is just as valid. But this whole 'small cameras are dead' thing I don't buy. Sure, for some people a phone is all they need. But there's still a difference.

Glen Devon near Gleneagles but 40 minutes hike from the road.

I agree, hell I'm even focusing on getting a newer phone over an actual camera because they're a lot better nowadays.
Right now I replace the iPhone 6 Plus for a Nexus 5X because of the larger sensor.

From a technical point of view, the difference between phone camera and actual camera are vast.
From a photographer point of view, this information mean fuck all.

And you are doing good, to be informed and updated it's a duty that can't be missed if you have to take a lot of excellent pictures.

What's going on with the multiple posting? Some in other threads, too.
@deleted / @Velocio
..now that we have the dedicated camera gear thread this one could be renamed to just "Digital Photography" for clarity..
