  • I like the underrated 18mm (28mm equiv) because it's small and reasonably fast. The 35mm (50mm equiv) is hella sharp and draws really nicely. But if I were starting from scratch and didn't have an x100 as well I'd probably look to go 24/35/85 equivalent (16/23/56 in Fuji lens land), as it's all fast and sharp glass at a nice spacing.

  • Thanks for that. Still so frikking stumped. The range they do is all appealing, and their road map is littered with the range I like. 14 to 60mm. But what!!
the 35 decked me out in low light. Drunk and handheld still gives crispy images, but always felt a bit cramped, and the OVF adjustment always got on my nerves.
27mm, yes please...oh wait, no aperture ring. Balls (I know, I know) but it's a killer.

Leaving me with the ideal 23mm. Now that's interesting, till I found out how big it is. I can't really complain, but I really liked the lightweight setup with the 35mm and even wished for a bit smaller.
I'm going through that "one lense" only phase, so this complicates things a bit.
Why oh why couldn't they just produce that 23mm f2.0 on the x100.

  • Sounds really obvious, but I guess the most important issue when going for prime lenses is:
what focal length does suit your style of shooting most?

  • Maw wide yo! fast and close.
I know I know, and you'll be 100% right. But I wanted to try a lightweight system and it feels like the 23 will destroy that ethos, as tempting as it is.
On the other hand...the x100t is pretty much ideal...

  • 16mm 1.4!

  • wanted to try a lightweight system

    ..pre-order Ricoh GR II ?

    ;)

  • I gotta say, I now shoot 95% of everything on the x100t. I have a Ricoh GR that is mainly my cycling camera because it fits in a jersey pocket, plus nights when I don't want to be seen as having a camera. It's nice, but the Fuji wins out for the lovely colours. My xpro1 with its lenses only gets out if I have a specific thing to take photos of. I love the 35mm on it, but it's enough bigger than the x100 that it feels like a chore taking it out.

As a PS - I initially got an x100 to do the one camera, one lens discipline. I love the 35mm equiv perspective (and 50mm but it's often too tight) so I thought it made sense. Now it's so ingrained I've lost the whole lens envy and just want to shoot. Which is nice.

  • @well_is_it FILTH! Also, fantastic image. Why are you not in the mirror?! Sorcery.

@Franz Beckenbauer As if I wasn't headfucking myself already! Now this!

@h2o See, I'm coming from the D700, so this is just as disgustingly compact for me. I hated the Xpro first time I used it, but I borrowed it again for a trip and despite its stupid quirks, when it did get the shot, it just floored me and I'm hooked.
I reckon I might go with what you say and get the 18mm. Seems to be pretty understated.
Totally get the one lens idea. It's exhausting having to think about 'how to shoot, so what lens' every time a camera comes out.

  • Dem tones and colours!!

  • Nice ^^

  • It was Hackney Council's Bike Around The Borough last Thursday, a mass ride for Primary school children. Just under 800 in total - in fact we missed the world record by just eight children.
I was marshaling and taking snaps when I could. Mostly just stock shots so the children can recognise themselves but I got a few I liked for their own sake.

  • Nice man, also liked the one you put on flickr a lot..

  • Cheers dude. I am in the mirror, just very small. I had a look when editing and was very confused... Its just an effect of the wide-angle mirror.

  • Hameldown Tor

First trip to Dartmoor on Sunday, on the way home from my gf's bro's wedding. This is a brenizer-esque panorama. Five images total

  • Great image. I really need to try that technique.

  • Fantastic shot!!

  • Bought an S120. Rad

  • My first decent digital camera was an s90, loved it. Missus friend lost it in Nepal the other day, shortly before the earthquake.

Will either replace with an s120 or much more likely one of the Sony RX 100 series

  • I'm amazed by it, does 60fps 1080p too. Like the RX ones but it seems like the II/III are the ones to get and they are twice the price. Battery life is shite though, which is a shame because I bought it for a little tour in Scotland. £32 for a genuine spare...
