Bigger tyres, lower pressure, larger contact area, more grip.
Did I miss something?
Ok, so here's the thing - bigger tyres are also supposed to have lower rolling resistance. If they have lower rolling resistance, how can they also have more grip? Lower rolling resistance, because there is less friction, but if there's less friction, surely there is less grip?
-
• #35
keep searching bill, you will find the answer.

Rolling resistance does not just come from friction, this will also depend on case deformation and ease of rolling over small obstacles e.t.c

Surface dependant/deformation dependant?
Ok so im in the camp that if a surface is super smooth id go with a slick ish tyre and big ie 700x25 to get most grip and run with a lower tyre pressure. spongy not flat
-
• #38
but is there an optimum size, you say big, so would a slick 40 be better?
-
• #39
Why do you fuckers insist on running big tyres now anyway?

why do you, fucker, insist on playing polo now anyway?
-
• #41
bigger tyres feel more controllable when skidding, and certain people use a skid to change direction quickly, also bigger tyres roll over the ball more easily. if you ride over the ball on 23s at speed you will go down. also bigger tyres look fukin rad.
-
• #42
Also, what I said: bigger tyres means more skidding before needing to replace and bigger tyres take more impact, thus being nicer to your rim.
(I think)

This is OT. Can we stick answering the OP, and leave all the rest to the polo fashion thread, please?
