Ban trucks in the city during daylight hours. Fuck it, ban all non-commercial vehicles from the M25 and all trucks from 6am-midnight.
RIP young man.

I passed this what must have been seconds after it happed as there was a queue of traffic and the lorry had just finished reversing back and then drove forward turning right to park up on the left. There were a few people milling around, this was not a pretty sight, so I don't want to write up any more than this. From memory the lorry did no look like a tipper lorry to me either, more just a general fixed chassis/non-articulated delivery lorry unless the delivery lorry was following the tipper and the tipper was parked up further along down the left of the road but I didn't like looking down that way to check.
I ride this stretch regularly and know this junction well and I am not sure how this happened as it is a pretty narrow junction which all vehicle have to creep out of.

We are trying to work out what happened, where was the lorry coming from and which direction the cyclist was going. The lorry involved was the Keltbray tipper shown here http://www.london-se1.co.uk/news/view/4401 , was that the one you saw turning or was it another lorry? Do you have any idea if the crash happened before the junction or after it? -

Doesn't the driver know some of these facts?

Always important to have other witnesses and it's not possible for us to interview the driver. They may be traumatised and not fully aware of what happened.

RIP. Very sad.
Sounds like the lorry should not have used that route?
Cities should not have heavy highway haulage on their streets.
Smaller vehicles (classic open tipper) should be used in higher frequencies?
I saw an articluated JCB mover turning left this morning at the lights.
Lady cyclist also taking corner. I'm thinking
She faultered and put a foot down.
I started to shout.
The lorry driver realised.
Slammed on brakes and hooted.
Already a ghost bike at the same spot.

Thanks I got the diagram, that helps a lot. It is still not clear if the tipper lorry was going south down Weston st before the crash or turned left out of Snowsfield. I suspect it was coming down Weston st. I don't think it was loaded, or maybe only a partial load. There was a short clip of the lorry, after it had been moved and was about to be towed away on ITV news last night, about 7mins into the clip.

Our London Cycling Campaign guy in Southwark has already been in touch with the developers at the Shard building site and hopes to get some answers about the movements of the Keltbray lorries, they are not supposed to be using the minor roads. Some residents have complained that they do.
Tipper trucks in this country are consistantly driven like go-karts down the public highways. Its crazy.
