  • I'm all for it. They can take any organ they want from me for whoever needs it. I also agree with whoever said that it should be an 'opt-out' system instead of an 'opt-in'.

I would also rather be cremated than buried, space is limited enough as it is here without me taking up room in a cemetery that could be used to house people instead.

  • That's what you would say though isn't it?

    So it would seem...

    Duh.

Indeed, because your insights are grounded in your own physical limitations.

  • Has anyone seen that cutting-edge (and fairly crap) film 'Dirty Pretty Things' about organ theft? There is a seedy underbelly to organ transfer, I would have you know.

  • ^ 'Seedy underbelly' was not meant as a pun, by the way, just in case jaw or Tiswas see that post. I just thought that this forum is typically more interested in the seedier side of things.

  • And I'm being perfectly serious when I add that I would in no way condone a pun derail of such a serious topic.

The safeguards you have to add just because it could be interpreted as ironic in such a thread when a list of organs offers an open goal for punning.

  • I <3 Oliver

  • i've made up a river cottage offal donor card. i've requested that in the event of my death hugh fearnley whittingstall cook and eat my gizzards and tripes with seasonal vegetables he picked himself whilst cheerfully lisping offal puns.

  • i'd be up for that. providing the place mat was a picture of my smiling face, to add a little something to the dining experience

  • Indeed, because your insights are grounded in your own physical limitations.

has he donated shit like legs and stuff?

  • I really should know better to ask a serious question on here.

  • You should have kicked off in your OP by being opinionated and saying something a bit controversial. That's the best way to get an good debating thread going :))

  • Actually, here's one for you lynx. Say a close relative contracted a medically incurable condition that was imminently life threatening. You, by some form of bizarre providence are the only match for them to have a kidney transplant, the only procedure that will save them from a premature death. Would you reject their request for an organ that you can quite reasonably spare?

funnily enough, that's exactly what happen to my father's cousin, of which my father willingly donated his kidney for.

this thread is spooky since I only just heard that he's going to have an operation soon yesterday.

What utter, utter nonsense. Do you have any evidence at all for such a *ridiculous *statement? ;P

  • opt in and opt out. it should be linked your right to *receive *organs.

that should work out OK shouldn't it? I don't like the idea of my corpse being a free for all, but donating to someone who would have done the same for me? sure.

  • The thing about organ donation is, you need to be alive for your organs to be of any use. If someone has been in a car crash and they're dead, their organs are useless. So you need to be in a critically ill state, in a coma or on life support or something. Not-quite dead.

  • The death penalty should be brought back and we could use the organs of those we exterminate

  • you can check into posh private clinics in China for that.

Yerp, agreed. It would not be a great source of organs though, since we wouldn't execute very many people. We don't have 1.1 billion people at our disposal.

Its not controversy, just something going through my head.

  • dogsballs organ?

    rofl!!

Nah car crashes/trauma victims etc are viable donors, they actually make up the bulk I think. In fact motorcyclists are still colloquially known as "donors"

Maybe not a billion, but we don't have to execute just 'locals' we could also execute foreigners, fuck knows there is enough of them, they breed like spiders, especially the Spanish, the Spanish love it.

  • Incidentally, @The Seldom Killer, what if you donated an organ, saving the life of a person that then went on to become a terrible and vicious tyrant, who performed breathtaking acts of genocide and general evil? Would that make organ donation wrong?

Was wondering when that going to pop up.

Here's another though, even if the person turn out to be a murderous tyrant, chance are it'll bring people together, countries join force to fight against the tyrant (like the World War), so even with the worse war in mankind's history, it brought a lots of country together in peace.

secondly I feel it's not up to us to decided on the fate of someone who we never will know.

Oddly enough this is what happened to me. My auntie had a tumors in her kidneys which destroyed them over a period of weeks. I and one of my younger cousins were the only match. So I bit the bullet and am now left with one kidney. Doesn't really make any difference to my lifestyle. I just have large scar which is always a conversation starter.

  • Steve Marriott from The Small Faces donated his Ogdens'
