Hey Oliver, can you get a power trainer and just do free handed cycle-training for a while?
At least then your leg strength won't deteriorate as much and you arse won't get as soft.
Just an idea ...I've often thought of getting a turbo but always decided against it. I live in a very old house which shakes when my neighbours' washing machine gets into spin cycle. :)

Bad luck Ollie. Walking does indeed SUCK. Yesterday I had an accident, and i can hardly walk. But with SPDs this morning I was fine on the bike.
Yesterday I was doing some gardening, the first this year. I trod on a piece of plank with 2 inches of rusty nail sticking straight up out of it. I screamed as it went into my foot just behind the ball of the second toe.
The pain was horrible yesterday. Today most of the discomfort, except for when walking, is from he tetanus jab i had.
Time to get smoking the herb.

If it makes you feel any better/ less silly, I have a friend who broke BOTH his elbows at the same time, in two or three different incidents! Two is more believable, I can't quite remember how many times it happened but it was more than once. He sticks his elbows out when he falls?! He has massive scars on both now.
he had his elbow doctor on speed-dial. Apparently the 2nd or third time the phone-call went something like:
Friend rings the elbow doctor. Dr picks up....
Dr: It's not possible..................

Sounds dreadful. Complex elbow fractures must be a nightmare! And, apparently, elbow fractures are also among the most painful. I've got off lightly.

oliver in all his pedantry believes you have to be cycling if contributing to the forum, all his previous output here has been done whilst on the bike, hence his reference to speech recognition software earlier
he is still cycling but until he gets KITT for his bike working again he is struggling to type with one hand on the handlebars and one hand on the keyboard (not having the chernobyl 3rd arm)
his participation in various sex websites has been curtailed for ages as most of his partners find it very distracting when he is fucking and typing at the same time
