  • 43, though as I'm definitely going to be buying a new pedal system I could just buy the shoes ahead of the pedals. That way each ride is only comparing one variable.

  • Just got a pair of Look Keo 2 Max. Was trying them out last night, and will be riding them at HH tomorrow. First thoughts are the engagement seems a bit flimsy. I am used to clunking into Time Atac.

    The platform feels nice though.

Getting into them was a pain, but I haven't ridden with single sided pedals for years.

Give me a PM, you can borrow them mid week if yo like.

  • Nice Jaygee, I'll let you know when I have the relevant shoes and see what we can work out.

  • Calling Hillbilly, give me your SPD sls
Calling James, give me your speedplays
Calling someone with Looks, Give them to me please.

Actually dude, I have a spare pair of SPD-SLs at home. They're the older series but they still work. Maybe bit loose in the ol' bearing area but you know, give you an idea.

  • Object, if you like the feel of the atacs, and you have a whisker of knee niggle, (£10 says) you're going to prefer the speedplays- give me a call (at the bike whisperer number) to chat if you like, I've ridden them all.

  • You ride keywins though and fabricate your own cleats from slightly chilled volcanic magma..

Speedplays do have more float so people with fucked knees might like 'em more? It's also not springed float like SPD so 'probably' reduces twisting pressure on your leg.

  • Nah, I only ride them crazy keywin mudmans on my crazy, like, fixie and crazy, like, tandem. When soberly riding my roadie geared machine, I pedal madly on speedplay, formerly X-series now zero's

    I like them...

Oh yes, and the track bike is strap-on.

  • Who's motorbike was that?

I rang before to drop off that wheel but you weren't in.

  • Object, if you like the feel of the atacs, and you have a whisker of knee niggle, (£10 says) you're going to prefer the speedplays- give me a call (at the bike whisperer number) to chat if you like, I've ridden them all.

I'll be taking you up on this offer tomorrow. Cheers scherrit.

  • Who is the IRD distributor here in the UK FFS??

Erm, to Jaygee, handbuilt, specc'ed to your weight and untended use, pay more for and pay more attention to who builds it, than the components, possibly , even. pay less attention to late night grammar.

    My 2p.

    DT R520 FTW.

You can get the rims on their own www.roadacecomponents.co.uk.
Halo do the Aero ones in white too.

  • So, I'm looking for an Athena groupset. Shiny bikes is the cheapest I've found the set for, at 526 quid. Planet X has the set for 500 quid, but only in 172.5mm cranks, so it'd be 75 quid more to get 175mm, and they'd be carbon.

I've bought stuff from Planet X/On-one before. They're a bit useless in a whole bunch of ways, but the service is pretty good and quick. Shiny sounds like it'd be a mistake.

If I go the Athena route, is 50 quid worth better service + carbon cranks? I don't really want carbon cranks, but...

(or can anyone magically find it for less elsewhere?)

  • Shinybikes have a very good price for Look Keo Max Carbons (£85)........but as they seem like total fucks I'm going to try and pricematch with Evans

  • .........and I just got a pricematch email from Evans. Nailed it!

  • Bump.

Just used these guys for some new tyres and tubes. I chose them as they had stock of the tyres I wanted in the colour I wanted and at as good a price as I could find anywhere else on the net.

The order was placed Wednesday evening at around 8pm and delivered Friday morning so full marks there.

Only gripe - I had to go right through the checkout process to find out what, if any, the shipping costs were. In this case £4 on a £50+ order.

  • Either it's quiet season for them or they are changing. Was looking at groupsets and found Campag Athena 11 in stock and at a good price. Ordered a Friday evening and was delivered on the Tuesday morning with no problems.

I had spoken to them on the phone as well so personally a very good service from them.

    Full Marks.

  • I ordered some parts from them a couple of weeks ago as the prices were great. Then I found this thread and dida a facepalm.

However, I emailed their customer services with my concerns over the lack of dispatch email and they replied straight away and the goods were delivered the next day. Good service and prices, just some communication issues.

I'd recommend them and judging by the last couple of posts they certainly seem to have improved as a business over time.

  • I dealt with them about 6 months ago and got my order the next day. Quick email response too.
You generally find people are quick to complain but not quick to praise. Hence quite a lot of negative reviews on here. I'd use them again anyway.

  • I first used these guys a few years ago to buy a Campag groupset and some other bits. They were the cheapest I could find and they delivered quickly. However, they've really got up my nose recently...

Two weeks ago I ordered a frame from them. I received confirmation that the order had been processed and a few days later the money came out of my bank account. A week after I placed the order I still hadn't received the frame so dropped them an email. Didn't get a reply so I called them a couple of days ago. The person I spoke to said someone would call me back. They didn't call me back but I finally got an email this morning with an apology for failing to get in contact but informing me that the frame was out of stock until 15th June.

Bit annoyed that they took the money out of my account when they knew the frame was out of stock and then completely forgot to tell me. Anyway, they've lost my business on this occasion.

  • I must be the only person who's had decent luck with them. Ordered from them because they were one of the few places i could find a 26.0mm inline post and were the cheapest. While the shipping wasn't rocket fast it came within about 5 days which i was happy with

  • Have always found their prices to be the best/equal to others for the items I wanted. However, I placed an order on 7th May. just a stem. 18 pound postage (to Spain, but still 18pound for RMail....). still waiting.

can't complain too much as the last time it wasn't too dissimilar although i don't remember the postage being so much. It was either them or ebay from Taiwan.

  • I ordered some parts from them a couple of weeks ago as the prices were great. Then I found this thread and dida a facepalm.

    Me too.

emailed them today, hopefully they can get back to me.

  • Me too.

emailed them today, hopefully they can get back to me.

Ed, you might eventually need to phone them. They haven't replied to my emails.

  • Pity, will try and get the money back.

  • Just filed a Paypal dispute to Shiny Bikes.

    It been 14 days.
