  • London, well not quite, to Bath Tuesday 27 July 2010

    Yes l's & g's. The overnight deluxe.

Meet at Waterloo at 23:00 on Tuesday night. We catch a train out of town in the TNRC style. 30 mins later. We get off the train, and we ride our bikes, through the night and into the day. On a most splendid route.

On arrival we bathe in the roman style, eat breakfast in the english style and talk shit in the universal style.

95 miles in the legs. about 45 notes lighter in the pockets due to the train out and more importantly train back. group save/buy tickets could lighten this a bit but that gets down to how organised we are from here. so.

please only put your name down if you can definitely make it and have booked the next day off work and we can sort out group saves. it will save a fair bit on the 45 quoted no doubt. which was my single fair scenario. am too bored to do the research on rail websites. forgive me.

this will be a most memorable ride. the reccie on saturday was made out of pure blacktop wonderment.

    List

    1. Clintsmoker
    2. Jonny
    3. Wools
    4. Fussball
    5. braker
    6. tika

Dunwich out, Bath in. Yes please to whatever groupsaver/advance booking action on the go.

  • ...and like Wools forgot to post yesterday - cool riding Tuesday, although I suspect that there's a random female in the Olympia vicinity who's still in a state of shock. Was up Chelmsford way again yesterday and and have been cajoled into turning the route into a summer holiday picnic ride with my nieces. Better get the map out..

  • In case one or two person are not on a groupsave as well as for Jonny's recce ride I believe the group should share costs.

    i agree

  • i reckon after a spot of breakfast we might like to enjoy the spa for a couple of hours. midday to 1pm train should be good.
I'd also appreciate a calm ride of 15mph and a nice tidy bombing pattern like whitstable. i'm unfit and this ride looks to be sans garmin which although we can criticise them defo helped us out there in kent on the whitstable. we all knew without it we wouldn't have been able to ride so freely without frequent map check stops. anychance we could borrow a garmin?

    uhn?

  • I no haz Garmin but, if Jonny's got a route saved online somewhere, I can put it on my JabScreen for 'just in case' purposes.

  • £9.50 for advance tickets on trainline at the moment on the 13.13 from Bath - no groupsave required. Worth putting a order in?

  • i'm defo in des. if you bought me one i'd be happy. just be careful though because jonny mentioned the inter city nature of these trains and their bike capacity is shit and needs booking. we won't get 8 on one train if this is the case. let's get some options together and make a move this evening or tomorrow.

  • mj's garmin in whitstable was invaluable....

  • if you can buy one for me too des, send me your account and i'll transfer the money asap

  • Happy to drop in to Paddington tomorrow if there's firm numbers - can check on bike spots per train, if they will take 8ish all good, if not we could spit between the 13:13 and the 13:43 - both £9.50 at the mo.

  • there looks to be one at 13:23 from bath spa. takes a lot longer than the others which might mean it has no cycle issues. worth having a chat with them des. we'll firm up numbers here tonight.

  • anychance we could borrow a garmin?

Yes of course, we just need to rendevous about gettting it back before the weekend.
I am in Madrid from tomorrow, is anyone around Condor this afternoon (4:30-5 ish) or going to the Rollaz hill climb I could drop it off then? I can also lend out my lights if anyone needs backups etc, the above conditions like bikes on trains at peak time apply.
Oh and if anyone has/can send me the route in .gpx I can load it on the Garmin ready for you dudes.

  • Checked with Great western - there are 6 bike bookings per train, and we do need a booking. There are 5 available on the 13:13 and 6 available on the 13:43. The £9:50 are limited and will sell out then the price goes up. So what to do? - I'm happy to make a block booking if we firm up the early numbers

  • JURASSIC PARK!

Meeting cancelled, so in for the 13:13 or 13:43 trains.

  • in! any train for me as i took weds off
i am going to the hill clim martin

  • As I said to jonny the other night, I'm really keen to join this, but I'll have to wait to see how the DD goes before I can confirm.

  • Ride back, FFS.

  • I'm happy to go with whatever the TNRC elders suggest regarding tickets. Cashish is ready, just get me a ticket. :)

  • Ride back, FFS.

One bike ride after a couple of weeks out and already giving it the big'un! :)

  • If you're all booking the day off work anyway...

  • martin. what time you at condor?

  • ok, Bath to London tickets and bike reservations bought for the 7 on the list as the cheapies and bike spaces were disappearing. Had to split the group as only 6 bike slots available per train, so its four on the 13:13 and three on the 13:43 (cheap tickets had gone for the trains an hour earlier). Total cost £76.50, so £11 per person. Train takes about 90 mins to Paddington.
