Finished this over a year ago now and have managing the withdrawl with the West Wing and House but nothing has come close really. Sopranos I never really got on with. Maybe Deadwood next?
I'm probably going to give it another year or so then come back to The Wire. I've never watched anything that's involved me so completely. I remember the feeling of "Nooooooo! Don't be over!" as the ride cymbals chimed the end of an episode... even though you knew you had the next one lined up ready to go! As james said I lost many many weekends to The Wire and don't regret any of it.

I've also been dropping in episodes of Six Feet Under in between, coming to the end of series 4. Also, worth watching
My next boxset will be 'Dexter' I think -

after finishing the wire and the sopranos i got a bit upset because i know that i will probably never see another drama series of that quality made for tv ever again. time to become a tv producer and change the world i guess..

Heartbeat?
All Creatures Great & Small?

it also feels like a year ago that i watched the entire series.
watched an episode of the corner , it looks interesting but so very dark and gritty.

Is 'The Corner' available as a boxset?
-
• #37
I remember everything mentioned above but I haven't got a clue what happened in which series. I want to watch it all again but it's dangerous territory. Hmmm...I am overdue a sick day...

I like the 3rd Series 'Hampsterdam' episodes!

Yep, or snide download as is only six episodes. Seriously fucking grim and the only high spots are catching Wire actors in opposite roles to their Wire personas. Also a blink and you'll miss it cameo from a much younger and slimmer Prop Joe in one episode.

It's weird watching the corner when a lot of the characters cross from the wire generally in completely different roles
Bunk in the pink dressing gown was also awesome

Sickest series ever - FACT. I watched all five seasons for the first time over the last 2 months. After work everyday there is a new empty space in my life. I feel violated.
I still shed a tear for Omar, and sometimes pour some beer in the floor in his honour.

Didn't like the way Omar got killed - shit way to go for such a badass
Didn't like Levy getting away with being a dodgy cunt
Didn't like Stansfield gettin away with everything
Didn't like Chris not getting killed
Didn't like seeing Duquan getting hooked on smackDid like Snoops getting done, cunt of a character
Did like Cheese getting done, cunt of a character
Did like the fact that Rawls was seen in the gay bar but no-one knowing he was an iron
Did like the fact Bubbles cleaned up his actI also liked how Freamon ended up with Shardene :)
I agree with most of that. Snoops was one of my fav characters though (The DIY shop scene is amazing) and I don't think seeing Duquan shooting up was a bad thing (IMO). It helped to drive the point home that not everybody can be helped or want help. I liked that it wasn't a 'feel good' ending to his particular story.
Ironically enough, my favourite parts *are *the endings...:

YouTube- The Wire - Season 2 Finale - I Feel Alright

Other worthy drama/etc:
Band of Brothers
Generation Kill
The Sopranos
and I've just seen a trailer for HBO's The Pacific, which also looks good:

Nice, thanks. So 'The Corner' was just one series?

Yup, not exactly a series, more six seperate stories, well worth catching, though a real wallow in the depravity of long-term drug addiction.

Watching the end of series 5 just brought home the fact that it's just a vicious circle. It mirrored Season 1 just with a new batch of people doin the same old shit
Duquan was just a 'new' Bubbles
Michael was just a 'new' Omar
The 2 fellas(names escape me) at the end with 'The Greek' in the cafe hut were the 'new' Barksdale and Stringer Bell, at the top of the tree
The kid still on the corner who killed Omar will eventually be the 'new' Bodie fighting to keep his corners -

Check out" Dexter"..........

Or "Breaking Bad"..........
I had an awful thing happen that nearly ruined the wire for me. I really liked some of the music from the wire, especially solomon burke - fast train.
So stupidly i youtubed it and was listening to it, when I noticed a video link in the side saying "Jimmy Mcnulty's wake" . I spent the entireity of series 4 and 5 expecting Mcnulty to die and just watching for how and who might kill him. :-( FAIL
