What is the general consensus for the return journey?

It is 80km at a social pace.

Gearinch wise 70appx is good, you will be flagging up the big hills and spinning out of controll on the downhill. Eitherway, I'm taking gears so I can carry some crap on my rack and I also found it more enjoyable.

I'm so excited I did a sneaky Guildford to Brighton yesterday. Needless to say my route was a lot shitter than Owen's. And I got lost a bit and ended up cycling around Billingshurst swearing at antique shops.

You wont make it to Ditchling. You will take the group south of london, take a wrong turn (just past facebook) and end up at Stanstead wondering what went wrong.
