Anyone that's moved from 700 to 26 care to give a quick update?
I'm currently using 30 x 20 on 700c and thinking 30 x 18 on 1.0 26" tyres. How does that compare to peoples current set-ups?

I went from 35/22 to 32/19 when I changed bikes it feels good!
-
• #304
sounds about right cam, depends on the tyres too.

I've been 32/19 on 26 since I got the Marino, can't remember why I chose this gearing but I did do some sums at the time. I'd recommend it.

ditto

Just gone from 38x22 to 34x20 (both with 26inch), excited to experience what it feels like on court.

I'm 32/18, which feels a bit hard sometimes. Would go for 19t, but can't afford a nice new freewheel and chain, so just going to become more hench instead.

That's why it's good to use a casette hub, gear changes are easy and fairly cheap.

Swings and roundabouts imo. Screw on hubs allow wide flange placement and they're about £50. Decent cassette hubs have much smaller centre-to-flange dimensions, and cost more like £100-150 for 'singlespeed' ones.

I'm riding 24 x 16 but considering 26 x 16 and longer cranks
-
• #312
i'm giving up 32-20 for 32-19/21 (1.3" 26"). i think gearing up for Paris is going to be a benefit overall.

Lee is 22-18 on 700. What a hero, fastest man out there. He said he would challenge anyone to a end to end race....

i have been 32/21 for a year and a half and i really like the acceleration. but i just bought a 20t sprocket for rear. might put it on tomorrow!
-
• #315
I'm 32/21 but it's too spinny I think, I'm just getting lazy, so I've bought a 19 sprocket.

So much better, even on a larger court such as Mitch.

What are people running these days?
I am going back to ss, the geared hub is very heavy, and I'm working late on Thursdays so cant do Westway anymore, so wont need to be doing that massive journey as much. I've been playing in second gear on my alfine, which works out at about 34 gear inches (on 700) . Very spinny I guess but I like it and on a smaller court like Newington I'm not sure its necessary to be upping it by much...
This is the last list. I get the feeling its well out of date by now.

It's a never-ending debate with too many variables, but playing last night on a slippy wet court I could've done with a lower gear because the game is so much slower and stop/start. A few days ago on grippy/dry court I was able to maintain speed much better through corners, and was totally happy with a bigger gear for more punch when accelerating from a rolling start.
