There's still plenty left on that carcass...

The effort gone into that makes me think the owner lost their key/the lock seized
-
• #2405
would've been easier to just grind the lock..?
-
• #2406
I reckon its an abandoned bike, probably not intentional but left alone for a good long time.

That would explain the paper on the top tube.

would of been quicker to just hacksaw the frame and take the hole thing

By "hole thing" do you mean wheel? It's already missing one.

A few WNTLYB I've spotted over the last few months:
I saw a brand-new-looking Raleigh Shopper on my way to work locked just like this, it was still there on my way home so they must be doing something right.
I've also started noticing a fair few lights (not cheap ones either) being left on locked-up bikes each morning that are still there in the evening. Popo must have caught all the theives.

this has only just struck me, lock an alu frame up with a fahg and it's still only as secure as cutting through alu

Yeah but the frame is fucked and if the thief is after the frame it's hardly worth tooling up for the job. If they are after stripping it for parts it's just easier to unbolt the parts needed.
-
• #2417
i think going through an alu frame with an angle grinder would be way quicker than stripping it.
-
• #2418
hacksaw would be quicker than unbolting everything
-
• #2419
an alu or steel road frame is hacksaw-able in seconds. Frame tubing is super thin and easy to cut.
-
• #2420
Generally thieves want the frames intact, no?

^ Unless there's more than one of them in town, I've just seen that bike on my way to work this morning. It was locked to a much taller post, with a slightly better lock.

yeah exactly, i cut through a scrap frame before just to fit it in the van easier, just as easy as cutting through the end of some bars
any decent bike without the frame will still make some money
Scary...

Carbon will give you splinters though.
Kennington.
This frame has been raped.
Sorry for shitty picture.
