My point was the lock doesn't go through the frame
-
• #1903
oops didn't see that, tut tutu reen
-
• #1904

-
• #1905

This is my bike, that was stolen a few weeks ago from my garage, locked up on the way home from the pub.
This is the same bike, with the stem loosened and the front wheel removed, back in my flat.
If not for this thread, I would not have thought it possible to recover without bolt cutters, so thank you everyone that's ever posted in here.

Success! Well done!!!!

• #1909
Did you leave a note?
-
• #1910
I didn't leave a note. I didn't have any pen/paper on me, plus I think it was abandoned. Had a flat tyre and one of the cranks had fallen off.
-
• #1911
Why did you ask for bolt cutters when you could've slipped the chain over the handlebars leaving just the wheel locked up?
-
• #1912
I'm going back later, so will leave a note then. Was a bit drunk at the time.
I did exactly what you said - but had to remove the stem. Would be nice to get my front wheel back but that will need some cutting equipment

so wait... this threads biggest achievement has been to show people how to steal poorly locked bikes

doesn't need to. chain is nice tight. you'd be hard pressed to move the bike, let alone remove it from the railings.
different locking techniques for different situations. this method shown is valid for sipping a brew 10yards away.

However even with a tight chain take that stem off and front wheel and the bike is free as demonstrated by ginger chris above. However I am sure you are aware of this and as you say being only 10yds away means you probs could have just leaned it against the fence.

If you have half a brain though you can work out whether a bike is well locked up or not.
-
• #1917
just ironic is all
-
• #1918
Made me think though,I have a great chain but im not easy about using a combination padlock, thinking of changing that.
-
• #1919
front wheel is pitlocked and then there is theft-po-tectian for all alan key bolts including stem and bars.
when removing that without the "keys", i'd be finished with my pint and asking you politely to fuck off.
-
• #1920
what kind of bolts are you using? (pm if you dont want to tech people how to steal bits off your bike)
-
• #1921
ti bolts for bike bits. they are not special. the super glue treat however is.
-
• #1922
this is neither new nor my idea. i saw it on here ages ago. nobody seemed to realise the magnitude of that guys shared knowledge and/or was able to translate that to the different bolts on a bike.
-
• #1923
I did that once but I used the wrong glue and it didn't thin out with alcohol had to drill out a ball bearing no easy feat
-
• #1924
i use the strongest glue i could find, of course it doesn't thin out with anything in less than 45min. it is not supposed to, that is the whole point.
-
• #1925
having the "key" will remove it in a second.
i think reen is understandably careful after his other bike got nicked
