been reading this thread for some time now and im amazed how some people are so careless locking their bike. they really live in a beatyfull world where thieves dont exist.

anyway ive been locking my new bike using a kryptonite ny 3000 through the seat tube/back wheel or through seatstays/backwheel and aditionally a mini magnum on front wheel/frame overnight.

please tell me this is right as im getting paranoid

You are observing the IQ gap between what is needed to own and ride and bicycle, and the achieve the simple act of locking it sensibly. This thread is a homage to that yawning void.

i shaved a pigeons head clean off once and that with normal double butted sapim spokes.
it wasn't too messy either, just a few feathers left in my wheel.

i did feel rather sad for the poor and unbelievably stupid bird, tho.

They don't need to have blades. My mum lost the tip of her finger in her brother's bicycle spokes when she was 3 years old.

Brake rotors are so much worse. Can go through bone. Im always shocked to see them on kids bikes.

To the owner of the Specialized bike that's been badly locked up at the top of Blackheath Village for months and months - you should come and get your frame, it's all thats left :(

a bike theif (i assume) locked their bike to my friends yesterday, with a combo lock.
I got through it in a few seconds by cracking the combo.
i then relocked it halfway up a near by lampost.
:)

+1 to the above.
Also that Speccy has been sitting there for months, quite tempted to go to town on the lock with an angle grinder late one night.
