    sorry if i missed something.

  • so, you're saying the use of* just* a pen could...

  • I was asked to delete it. Thats why its gone. But I could post some more lame stuff just to entertain you guys so you get something interesting to do.....LMAO

  • Ways not to lock your bike #41:

    Ever, in N1. Locked up dlock through frame and rear wheel outside a friends house (up some steps right outside the front door). Come back 2 hours later to find the cable chopped and the stem, bars and brake lever missing. Total value: about £15. Worth the effort it took to steal? Barely.

  • As a rule of thumb, If I ever feel the need to venture into what known as the N1 area, I take this;

    I fucking hate going there and get worried about whether my bike might get nicked or not.

  • That does suck, but, it's why I superglued a small metal nut into my stem and seatpost bolts. It's worth doing, takes about 15 mins to melt down with nail varnish remover. These guys might get £15 for 30 seconds work. In their world it's worth it I guess..?

    any item they get for free, even if it's only £1 is worth it to them.

    In brick lane, there's a stall where they sell all kind of sporadic bicycle component that has obviously been stolen from people's bicycle, so it's a 'liveihood' to those scum.

  • Yeah. I guess I always assumed I rode enough of a beater to not have to worry about that, the old ball bearing trick is sounding a whole lot more tempting now...

  • I melted down the superglue in my stem earlier to change my bars/stem.. turned out the stem was seized into the steerer anyway. Took a right hefty wallop to get it loose. Still a good deterrent though. Even just stick a bearing in with grease.

  • top mark for ball bearing, it actually work, someone tried to steal the missus saddle, as there's no way he can insert his allen key on the seatpost bolt or the saddle bolt, as a last ditch attempt, he even tried to twist it;

    We didn't use superglue on it though, we use those glue that require two seperate gel to be mixed to get it to work.

  • Chose the smallest wooden post, with just some fabric at the top making it secure.

  • So just to recap: ball bearing in the nut glue with Areldite and nail polish remover for 15 mins to remove if need be?

  • searches feverishly for necessary bits and bobs

  • superglue is easier. i don't think nail varnish remover will break down aryldite

    I've only ever used superglue - the acetone in nail polish remover breaks it down. It's quite fun. Goes all gloopy.
    Instead of a bearing I found two little nuts (LOL!) that fit neatly into the hex socket (two make it tall enough); the threaded holes create a little well for the glue. Then melt it down and use a small sharp thing to pick them out.

  • Perfect! On it, cheers.

  • Or just buy a pitlock.

  • $£€

  • pitlocks are ugly

  • Yep, you quite often see people jacking up there. Not sure what makes it an ideal spot for heroin but there you go.

    The reason that's a junkie hangout is because the white building on the right is a needle exchange / methadone clinic -type place.

  • pitlocks are ugly

    Pot. Kettle.

    I'd rather have an ugly bolt and a seatpost than a good looking bolt and no seatpost.

  • or a nice small ball bearing hiding descreetly in the hole
