Old. Footbridge over Forest Road E17 - one way to go Honey Badgering in Epping Forest. That path through the forest isn't half scary on your own at night. Fun though.

New: I returned home over the relative safety of what I call Mugger's Bridge.

Well, who'd have thought a tag on something referred to as 'Mugger's Bridge' would be so unappealing?

The road takes its name from a former abbey in the area founded in 1135

Seems to have been renamed sometime in the last 70 years. I wonder why?

Yes, it was sunny earlier this morning. Raining now.

I wonder why?

I have a theory. Looking at old maps it used to be called Union Road perhaps reflecting the West Ham Union Workhouse further down the street. By 1930's that building was a home for the chronically ill and in 1948 it was renamed Langthorne Hospital. Maps from the 1940's start to refer to the road as Langthorne Road. Perhaps the road was renamed at the same time to distance the area from its workhouse origins?

New: This is almost like a Boundary Carol.
