  • wow, a quadruple tag!

    And well done Stimpy!
The book in question is actually David Copperfield. I'm not sure he mentions the street by name, but its location is described. Lower Robert Street is the last remaining one of a number of streets that ran under the Adelphi. Most have been converted to cellars, backfilled, etc. Lower Robert St is the only street with a vaulted roof in London. And it's way cool!

I had a suspicion that it was around there but never got round to having a proper look (not even on google). A bit of Durham Street, which would have been similar, has been preserved and is now used as a lecture theatre by the RSA (under which it ran)

Got to see it on one of the open house weekends a while back and, to quote the man, it was way cool.

Going to Gordon's Wine bar tonight so will pop by and have a gander at Lower Roberts.

  • Its a Dog!

Looks like a dog with a cape

  • where are they? I like underground streets.

Hmm, have realised mine aren't so much underground as covered.

French ordinary court, under fenchurch street. Leake st under Waterloo... Although is that closed now? Was thinking of that road under the barbican too.

    What was your other one?

  • I was thinking Leake St too. I hadn't thought about the Barbican one.
I didn't even know about French Ordinary Court. I work nearby, I shall have a look.

  • Leake street is still open. At least part of it is...French Ordinary court is awesome, although it doesn't actually go anywhere (tapers to an alley).

Little trinity street nearby has a creepy covered section, but is not all underground. And castle baynard street, also in that vicinity, but that's more of a grim service road. There is also Cold Blow Lane in deepest darkest dragon-infested Millwall, but that's enough secrets for one post ;)

Sorry about the lack of clue on the tag, I was busy drinking beer. Well done Dammit anyway.

  • Found it!, but I've a long day at work tomorrow, bugger...

  • Google street-view?

  • I'm just double checking, it's the same plaque thingy, but there's no grass.... Hmmmm...

  • Yes on Google street-view, is this in more than one location?..

  • Late night tag, but finally got it. Can't upload pics for some reason, link to flickr page below.

Previous tag was at the cycle route over the railway line between East Dulwich and North Dulwich.

  • Gracias. Sorry for denying sherbert of a tag, reckoned i'd beat the morning commuters. First tag too, brap.

  • Virus?

  • :P cheers for the prompt anyways ww, thought i might actually try and find one this time.

  • nice one dude; you finally got one :)

  • How come the tags are all suddenly down my neck of the woods, when I'm stuck at work? That special slope is one of my favourite climbs - provided you don't get stuck behind someone who then decides to get off and walk!

  • Do it after work! Lots of people won't be able to make it down there in time I'm sure.

  • Updated the map with pictures. Someone go and get this. It's so close and so tempting! But I've played too much recently so another southie needs to get involved.

    :)

  • Excellent - well done.

  • Nice one.

Who originally created the map? Who is this "Tom"?

  • 6pt wasn't it?

  • Nice to have such an easy one again.

I always say go for landmark buildings to keep it moving. BQ's was an easy one if you know that there are very few areas in Central London with slopes like that, but I think most would only have got it with the Bob clue.

Nah, the fun in the game, and indeed in living in London is in showing and learning about the charming, beautiful or secret places that mean something to you or that you just have an odd liking for. Everyone already knows about the tourist attractions.

I like finding out about new stuff. That's why I like to put a little bit of interesting fact about my tags.

  • ^It's nice to find a balance between interesting bitsnbobs that people might know and needlessly obscure locations innit? It was 6pt/Tom who created the map.

  • To be fair I did think that enough people would know about Lower Robert St to not need to give clues.

  • I like the history/trivia lessons, but I also like having an excuse to cycle around London and behave suspiciously.

Nothing worse* than having no idea where the current tag is and having to wait days for someone else to move it on.

Incidentally, I have no idea where the current tag is.

    *NOTHING I tells ya!
