It was a treat being out this morning. I got lost in Southwark and saw magnificent bits of London.
Old, I hope; Greenland Dock, Surrey Quays.
So, did you get the treats?
-
• #11628
Oh yeah! As a bonus, there's some Chocolate eggs under that pram...

I'm afraid I'd forgotten all about the treats when I found it, and I failed to leave any too.

Honestly, the things I endure for this game. I wanted to take a long exposure with lowest iso and smallest aperture for maximum detail and quality. Anyway during taking said exposure a, let's call him 'A Gentleman of the Night' strolled along to make friends with me. Bear in mind at this point that my fat camera is siting on the tripod, my bike is over there and I need to keep my finger on the shutter release to keep it open. Anyway I wasn't really upset by this, even when he put his hand on my thigh. I was dedicated to getting the shot. I just told him no thanks and continued to wait. After a minute or two I felt I had to make some conversation, so I explained the game and what I was doing. In the end something went wrong with the camera; I reckoned at the chosen settings I'd need a good ten minutes but it closed early. At that point I decided it wasn't worth staying for a second attempt. Shown above is the 30 second exposure I took just a little earlier.

Did you get the bag of sweets or had they been snaffled by foxes? -

It's just something to sit under and drink wine on warm summer evenings. I've bought 2 bottles in anticipation of this year's hot spell.

Old
Four statues of polo players, two Chinese (they invented the game) two English. Formerly located in the Olympic Park in Beijing, a gift from the people of China to Britain in the Olympic year. What it's doing located on the edge of Royal Albert Dock is anyone's guess... could be that it's adjacent to what I think might be Newham Town Hall.New
I think this'll go quickly.I can see why there weren't too many taggers out today. That easterly gusterly was hard work, especially as it was the Scott's first shakedown ride after a re-build. 60mm stem in today's gusts made the handling interesting.

I hate the area of the new tag.
But nice one anyway!

Good effort Jurek
Those Chinese polo players are amazing. Here's the press release from when they were installed:
A magnificent sculpture has been gifted to the borough by renowned Chinese sculptress Huang Jian.
The China-UK Friendship Polo Match was unveiled at a special ceremony attended by Mayor Sir Robin Wales and councillors. The Polo Match sculpture is based on two Chinese ancient polo fans and two British modern polo lovers who travel through time and gather in the Olympic Park for a polo game.
Sir Robin said: “The Royal Docks is a fitting setting for this magnificent sculpture, which we are delighted to welcome.”
Speaking through a translator, Huang said: “My sculpture has found a fitting home. The backdrop of the docks and London City Airport is amazing.
I am very happy. -

I share your hatred of that area Whatok.
The statues are pretty impressive - I note that some clown has unscrewed one of the player's mallets - presumably for the scrap value of (?) bronze. -

I await my invitation as eagerly as I await warmer weather.
;)
Nice building skills. You should do a Current Projects thread, à la Bare Necessities and his shed.

On my way to get the polo statue tag, I snapped my chain and bent my front mech, I didn't even get 2 mins into the ride out there before I had to abandon and push my bike home from Covent Garden home to Elephant and Castle!
Grumpy but I got home and found that someone had already got the tag, so not to bad!
I will get a tag soon... on my s/s bike probably. while I wait for the parts for my geared :( -

Well...
Another fun day's riding with Bobbygp... lovely sunny afternoon but turned bitterly cold when the sun went down.
We lost xtomorx to a broken chain on The Strand but powered ahead to hit the quite magical statues of the polo players. Great tag. Really great. Props.
Getting ready to upload this picture, we realise we've been tagzumped!
Turns out though, that we'd passed the new tag en route to the polo players so we swung back around and grabbed it... so...
OLD TAG - Statue of Athena Apparently the tallest bronze statue in the country
NEW TAG - This was snapped on the way to the polo players at city airport so kind of a pre-tag but I think that's acceptable. The image has been cropped 'cause if you could see the shops in the background, it'd be easily Googleable.
On the way home, we took the Emirates Air Line Sky Carriage thingy for the first time too.
Win.
And I agree, this area of London is pretty dry but saying that I've not spent loads of time out there.
Bollocks...
Right...
In that case...
We had an alternative... someone voice an objection if this doesn't follow the rules?
NEW NEW TAG
