  • sorry, the clue is a bit obtuse.

former square with a danish connection

  • haHA! excellent

  • Yep, not too far for you, if I remember correctly.

  • Ooo i knowwhere this is, cant really be bothered

  • old: Wellclose Square, off Cable St

The school is on the site of an old Danish church and I think the Danish Embassy was once on the square too.
    New

  • nice. Wellclose square has got a slightly strange history:

    New Tag:

It's a bit vague but it's well close to a previous tag and the place deserves a tag of it's own.

  • Got one

OLD - Farringdon Station, or rather the shop units into which it has been converted: http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag123/andrewhorton/2013-01-03163535_zps7ebafafa.jpg

    NEW: http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag123/andrewhorton/2013-01-03163836_zpsd6deae1c.jpg

Sorry, crap photos, iPhone at night...

  • Wahooo! I can't believe I got one. I am shaking with excitement.

I got it as I used to work next door to Farringdon Station, back in the day when it was on the other side of the road, and before all the bars arrived in the area. Bit of a surprise how it all looks now.

  • By the way, this...

Best clue, Danish, sure, but it is square too. Briliant. I got it from that, but too far for me - I am at work today.

  • Ain't done a tag in ages....

That's Farringdon & High Holborn Tube Station entrance

On that high note I'll keep the theme going, here's a a frozen snapshot of old travelling habits; as commuting patterns have changed and new demands such as better accessibility have arisen, so some underground stations have altered their layouts substantially.

  • fuuuuuu

  • Sorry mate, new tag is still:

Not rubbing it in, just keeping it easy to follow.

  • Swift work! I was impressed by Oat's framing of the photo to give the wrong station name, nice bit of misdirection that never really had time to work.

Holborn aint on the metropolitan line though ;)

  • He should have not included the Metro... bit though... that was the giveaway for me. There are loads of disused, renamed etc. stations around here, there were three called Holborn at one point: "Holborn", "Farrigndon and High Holborn" and "Holborn Viaduct". Knowing which line it was on pricked my memory.

  • Another, which is fun, is the disused Strand station, which was on a spur from the Picadilly coming off at Holborn. It is still in good nick, I have been down there (it was being used as an art gallery for someone's degree show or some such). Apparently the tube staff used to use it for their Christmas parties or some such.

  • can't believe I lost by 8 minutes !

    16:35 vs 16:43 !!!!

nice one Andrew, have some rep

  • And further train station meanderings. Does anyone remember when the buildings out the back of Farringdon station, sort of opposite Turnmills (RIP) were squatted and used to be used for big parties? Last one I went to was the day after Labour won in '97. How glorious life felt at that time, as one of Thatcher's children of the eighties, Labour had won, we didn't yet know what a cunt Blair would prove to be, and the sun was out. Ah. Beautiful memories. The party was great too, set in a sprawling collection of outbuildings and yards almost overlooking the late night (and early morning) travellers in the station. I think the place was called "Tardis".

  • Anyone got an E? I'm feeling in the mood again. Got a tag! Riding a wave of 90s nostalgia.

Ah, hate it when that happens! Nice Highbury & Islington tag though.

    Thanks dude.

  • Nice Highbury & Islington tag though.

I had to check that. Realised I was thinking of the entrance and exit at the back of the old High and I station, through which the bands get in and out of the Garage (is that the right name now?). But you got the front which I have not noticed before.

  • The Farringdon tag is where, 150 years ago next week, a banquet was held on the platform to celebrate the opening of the Underground.

The then aging primeminister, Lord Palmerston, turned down his invitation to the dinner saying he wanted to spend as much time above ground while he still could!

  • ^ Nice. I am a sucker for that whole (hole?) underground history thing. The post office tunnels around Holborn, the disused stations and stuff. They were so proud of it all in the day.
