  • You aiming for 6 teams with 8 players or do different numbers per team not matter? No more than 6 teams allowed?

It's hard to say because on the day of, you don't know who's going to show. Unless we choose a date now and ask who can make themselves available (a la EHBPC qualis). Because the amount of players on the court remains a constant, the number of benched players, if it varies slightly, doesn't seem to me to be a huge problem (some teams will get slightly less or more play time).

Games will ideally be 45-60 minutes, so we can't have too many teams. However, 6 teams = 12 games round robin. If we had 6, we'd maybe need 30 minute games (3 periods of 10?)

  • Ray, thats wicked! Can you work out the most central location of all players? But based on number of players, not just a physical central point of the furthest crosses?

ta hoppy, yeah once i gather all the info. there should be lots of funny patterns and diags i can work out.

I'd imagine it to be close to Newington, ha!

Newington is probably the most central court but once you gather in the majority of players and distances from court im sure it'll pull the perfect court location north side of the river TBH.

  • I made a map!

It's not exact because post codes and councils don't match, but I trade to make it more or less right (Southwark is shaped sort of like Southwark, and E2 is Hackney and TH, etc.. bits and bobs which are wrong but it gives you the impression of the areas).

    sweet

  • Wests is looking strong.. which one am I in, west north or West south??

  • West-north, Hammersmith boy.

  • Bored so I had a go.

You can get 5 teams like this:

    East Hackey - 10 players
North Hackney + Haringey + Waltham Forest = 9 players
    South - Lewisham + Southwark = 10 players
    Tower Hamlets = 10 players
    West - Hammersmith + Hillingdon + Lambeth + Richmond + Sutton + Wandsworth + Westminster = 8 players

The West team is then much closer to regular West players (+ Emmet who I'm sure will object to any affiliation). We have less but I can think of other people (ElGuapo for example) who I'm sure would be happy to represent West. Plus the South team seems more distinctly 'South'. Less teams means longer games as well which makes the bigger teams more justifiable.

  • Damn right I will take objection.

Despite the W in my postcode I am not west, I am south of the river and probably more central than anyone else on here.

    I liked the team before!

  • Looks good James. As we are always so affectionately grouped as South and you are as West, it would make sense for Lewisham to play with Southwark, and have the Wests play together rather than split.

  • Damn right I will take objection.

You're west of Charing Cross which is the centre point for distances to/from London.

  • Lies.

    East Hackey - 10 players
North Hackney + Haringey + Waltham Forest = 9 players
    South - Lewisham + Southwark + Lambeth = 11 players
    Tower Hamlets = 10 players
    West - Hammersmith + Hillingdon + Richmond + Sutton + Wandsworth + Westminster = 7 players

  • Despite the W in my postcode I am not west, I am south of the river and probably more central than anyone else on here.

That didn't stop you from jumping in on a space in the Massive Cogs West London team.

We may have shown you the ropes at South initially, but you're now a Westie to me Emmet!

    ;-)

  • I'm fine with that. I was trying to avoid making invented boundaries (Lambeth isn't really West, imo) for some, but not others. It's now set up in such a way as South and West are made up of imagined (social) groupings, but North-East remains geographically (social-cartogrpahically?) divided. I was trying to create as mixed up, yet with reason rather than choice/random, teams as possible.

I liked it before cause it resulted in having West, Hackney, and South split (and TH is already sort of split by having people who don't usually play together). Of course this will upset some people because they want to play with the people they want to. But I'm not sure that's really the idea? Why not just have a compass battle if this is what we want?

  • Does that make Cameron a westie as well?

    No.

Cogs are the most diverse of all the london teams, in which I am flying the flag for south london.

  • We could call the Lewisham/Southwark team 'South East'? Which would mean Emmet is SW and therefore WEST.

Just winding you up Emmet... ;-)

  • Cogs are the most pointless of all the London teams
    .

  • Does that make Cameron a westie as well?

    No.

So it's ok for you to be deleted from the 'Best of the West' league table then?

Aitch could you do the honours please

  • ha!

  • East Hackey - 10 players
North Hackney + Haringey + Waltham Forest = 9 players
South East- Lewisham + Southwark = 10 players
    Tower Hamlets = 10 players
    West - Hammersmith + Hillingdon + Richmond + Sutton + Wandsworth + Westminster = 7 players
    South- Lambeth = 1 player

  • The other thing about the other way is no full league team is represented on any borough team (as far as I can tell). The revised teams allows West and South to have full teams.

  • So it's ok for you to be deleted from the 'Best of the West' league table then?

Please do, I never wanted to be involved in the special olympics.

  • Just flicking through your post history Emmet - it's sad that you were so enthused in the West thread and then suddenly realised that nobody you wrote about in your journal had any respect for West London. I'm trying to pinpoint the exact date you turned...

  • As I have said before, west london betrayed itself. For that I can have no respect.

  • I like that no league team was represented fully in the previous method.

Could do it as a draft or randomly, both using criteria like - 4 x hackney, 2 x south, 2 x boroughs that only have 1 or 2 players ?

  • you left this behind at Newington on Saturday Emmet, never mind - one day you'll be half as good a player as Todd…

  • I like that no league team was represented fully in the previous method.

    Battle of the randomly-generated-teams!

(I actually like this idea - more than a compass battle).
