  • Roxy, are you playing?

  • and there are a couple of cambridge teams at UK champs.

  • yes Rik, I'm playing, that's not what this is about.

gabes, that's what I'm trying to say to you. Lighten up, be nice to others.

  • Ok so why don't we host a vote for al UK Bike Polo Players and ask them to vote on an ambassador and a way of deciding?

  • no, at lockett.

    wanker

    ;)

  • Roxy, are you angry? in you first post in this thread you seens a bit upset. If you playing why you consider that it is unfair. We all now that it will never bit complatly fair for everyone. IMHO it seen that the UK Champs are the fairest way to choose the 6 reps for UK.
and I agreewith you we should hold a vote.

  • I'm not saying that the UK Champs aren't the easiest/best way of deciding out of the tools that we've been given. What I'm saying this that finding out after the fact that the UK's are going to count for something else more major is unfair.

  • no Rik, thanks for asking, I'm not upset, I'm just thinking of others.

  • These things have a way of snowballing on the forum. If enough people say "great idea" then everyone else feels like they have to go along with it. I guess what I was hoping to put out there was let's check with all of the UK before deciding for ourselves what's best. That's what I would think would be "best" and "easiest".

I think the questions should be:
    Who should be our ambassador?
How should we decide the UK Champs?
If we decide in a tournament, does it have to be the exact same line up that goes to the World's? (What about injury, people moving, not being able to make the Worlds, People who are planning on the UK's being one team but the World's being a different team, etc..)

  • question 1
we should hold a votation bewteen all the voluntaries to the position
    question 2
I dont really understand this question but.....
the UK Champ will be decide in the UK Champs, in Manchester, they have to win the tourney

  • I think, UK Champs chooses, top 6 got to worlds. Easy*

*IMO of course, we need a vote, but I'm not sure what the other options are, UK champs, or impossible to organise alternative UK selection tourney.

we want to know your ambassador and **how you organize selecting the eligible teams until then.**

I agree. It would be very hard to plan another tourney.

I think it'd be good to add a question-
"Are there any other players (who can get a team together) or teams who would like a chance to play for the World's that aren't currently going to the UK Champs?"

  • i would say it could be the top 6 UK finishes at the euros, but only 6 teams from the UK will be going to the euros..... also, the tournament season is getting full enough, i'm not sure another tournament just as a qualifier is reasonable. maybe a points system based on several tournaments?

  • there are more than six goign to Euros from UK arn't there? 2 from MCR , 4 from LDN, what about cambridge/oxford?

  • So do people think a poll is the right thing to do?

    Other suggestions for questions?

    1. Who should be our ambassador?
    2. How should we decide which 6 teams go?
2b.If we decide in a tournament, does it have to be the exact same line up that goes to the World's? (What about injury, people moving, not being able to make the Worlds, People who are planning on the UK's being one team but the World's being a different team, etc..) [soz Rik, I mis-typed last time]
2c. Are there any other players (who can get a team together) or teams who would like a chance to play for the World's that aren't currently going to the UK Champs?"
  • I'm sure i'm not the only one who saw this coming. It makes less sense to decide this any other way than the top 6 from UK champs to go to worlds. IMO.

I can't decide on the line up question, it is very tough. This development raises the question, should you be able to play in the UK champs if you are competing for a worlds spot in another team? As in, if beards were were a french team, at the moment I could play with max (KRH) and Josh (fiasco) in the UK champs, qualify but then also qualify with beards in france. Really complicated, does that even make sense?

  • 1. Who should be our ambassador?
we need voluntaries, and them hold a votation, the one with more votes is our ambassador

    2. How should we decide which 6 teams go?
6 best teams in the UK Champs

2b.*If we decide in a tournament, does it have to be the exact same line up that goes to the World's? *
yes, it has to be the same line-up. If for what ever reason you can not go (who will mad enough to give away is spot) you team can have a sub

2c. Are there any other players (who can get a team together) or teams who would like a chance to play for the World's that aren't currently going to the UK Champs?"
I dont know, but Fiasco stiil looking for a sub (I think).

  • just give it a week to see if anyone actually opposes using the uk champs in mcr

  • Hey Rik, I was actually thinking of setting up a proper poll, but wanted to see if there should be other questions added to it.

But yes, if people want to volunteer or nominate someone to be ambassador then maybe this is the place to do it.

I'm thinking the poll would look something like this:
    1. Who should be our ambassador? The ambassador is responsible for taking UK decisions to the World's committee, not for making the decisions.
    a. john
    b. bon
    c. jovi
    d. etc..

    2. How should we decide which 6 teams go?
    a. 6 best teams from the UK Champs
    b. divide up the number of spots by city and let cities decide on their own
    c. hold another tournament
    d. vote for best UK representative teams
    e. first come, first in
    f. points based system from a few different tournies
    g. some other way....

2b.*If we decide in a tournament, does it have to be the exact same line up that goes to the World's? *(keeping in mind people may not be playing at the UK's with the team that they may want to go to the World's with, there may be injuries, people moving, work commitments, money concerns, etc..)
    a. yes
    b. at least 2 players from that team
    c. at least 1 player from that team

2c. If it must be the exact lineup from the UK Champs, what happens if part or all of that lineup is unable to go?
    a. That entire team is out and the place is offered to the 7th place team from the qualifying tournament

    1. Are there any other players (who can get a team together) or teams or different team line-ups who would like a chance to play for the World's that aren't currently going to the UK Champs?"

These teams/players/line ups should say something ASAP. If there are other players/teams it would be nice if we could offer them time/place to play for the chance to go. I think we could arrange for this.

    Something like that?

  • just give it a week to see if anyone actually opposes using the uk champs in mcr

It's a nice idea, but not everyone in the UK may know that this is even a possibility so if the approach is wait and see then we should at least make sure that the UK is informed.

  • No ones suggested teams coming from different places, for example 4 from the uk champs, the other two from a qualifying tourny later in the year... That is surely fairer than the other options which seem like one extreme or another.

  • so can teams who compete in the first tournament, compete in the second tournament?

  • I honestly can't believe people are questioning the validity of the top 6 teams from the UK championships being the selected teams for the worlds, It's the perfect qualification. And the argument that people didn't realise this would be the qualifiers is pretty weak. People who signed up for the UK Champs want their chance to be the best of the UK, so this will provide the best 6 of the UK. End of.

We cannot hold another tournament just to decide who should play at the worlds, we cannot decide London should have n teams and Manchester should have n teams. The worlds organisers are asking us to provide them with our best 6 teams. We have the UK championships to provide this.

As for ambassador, I nominate Todd.

  • ... Doing country allocs is a fuck site better than the retarded city by city system...

I really disagree with this. It gets away from the community aspect of polo. My view of the city system is that you are representing your scene, where you play polo and who you play polo with on a regular basis (london being an exception with such a large polo population).
Country by country just goes by pre-determined, established bullshit political boundaries that have been the cause of wars and much bloodshed (amongst many, many other horrible things... dude). These boundaries mean nothing to polo.

However, I agree with Gabes about the UK champs being the deciding factor, even if it's of at the very least the top 3 going through to the worlds and 4th/5th etc if one of those teams can't go.

In an ideal world, given the situation, the UK champs wouldn't decide after the fact but given that 9/10ths of any polo team/players that play serious competitive polo are going to be in Manc. then it's already set up, easy.
