look, this is a thread about someone who died. someone that some of us knew – called an acquaintance, a mate, a work colleague, whatever. someone that some of us respected and looked up to. someone that inspired some of us. in short, someone that touched some of our lives in some way. you don't have to rescue children from burning buildings in order to have an influence on someone's life. you don't have to trudge through the jungle to build mud huts or whatever to be a good person, worthy of mourning.
a lot of us are in creative fields. alexander mcqueen was someone who rose from basically nowhere to the top of his field, based purely on his talent and many of us respect and admire him for that.
it's fine if you don't admire him. it's fine if he didn't have any impact on your life. but don't be a dick and tell me it's wrong that i did admire him or that i'm sad that he's gone.

What is wrong with that?....When my grandfather spoke i listened as he was wiser than me and what he said was worth listening to....or are just using grand dad as an insult....are you indulging in a bit of ageism perhaps/ If so shame on you!
My grandad was a racist who wouldn't speak to my mum because she married a black man! I hate that people believe that because someone fought in WW2, Korea etc it somehow makes them a saint. My work means I have frequent contact with the older generation and i'd say 40% of the ones I meet are not people I would choose to aspire to be like!
Platini, Wiganwall etc. Perhaps you feel McQueen didnt warrant this type of tribute but some people did. Surely you could have just ignored this thread?

He is [sorry, was ] a clothes designer and nothing more. Don't make him into some he is not; he is no Rembrandt!
Could Rembrandt make clothes with the quality of cut that McQueen could?
To imply that a painter is superior to a Tailor and designer is pretty narrow minded. Neither could do what the other does to the same standard without proper training, and even then there is the question of a natural gift on the design side of things...Rembrandt didn't always paint from imagination, so to belittle McQueen with that comparison is pointless.
You clearly hold painters in far higher regard than tailors/designers but that doesn't hold true for everyone else here. -

Right on !
The last thing we need now, as we try and get the economy going (and with an election coming up) is a mixing of the races.
My family is racially pure (except for my granddad who was a bit of sambo, and my mum who is of questionable origin, and my little brother who, quite frankly, looks far too tanned - even in winter).
