I've never had even one of these and now got two in one game, wild. Admittedly I wasn't aware how good of a move one of them was.

Nice!
The great moves seem to be when you find an only move.
I still don't really know how chess.com defines a brilliant.

I'm currently one win away from overtaking my previous peak rapid rating of 1115 (I play 10 mins pretty much exclusively).
Too scared to play. Ha.

I think it works roughly as follows:
At each turn the engine assesses which move is the best move, and this is done by thinking N moves into the future. A brilliant move is defined as a move that is better than the best move identified by the engine. I think this is most likely to occur because the quality of the brilliant move is only revealed when you consider a longer time window.
So, the ābest moveā might be best when looking 10 moves ahead, but the ābrilliantā move is revealed as best when considering 15 moves ahead.

Yeah, I've read something similar before.
But what does that mean? Why does the engine stop at 10 ply minimax, then carry on to 15 ply, before allocating a brilliancy? It just seems so odd.

It's getting a bit too high-stakes for my liking.

I'd quite like to get a nice set for my uncle, for his birthday. Something fairly classic, Staunton, boxwood etc. I'm looking at second hand sets, under around Ā£50ish. Ā£100 max. What should I be looking at? Everything seems to be the same House Martin sets, which are a little uninspiring.

Checkmate in twelve moves is a first for me. I always play black, easiest setting, quick attack

Hilarious, ChatGPT doesnāt understand teh rulez of chess.. not sure I can be arsed,
unless I connect with the jail-break version.. sounds dangerous though

Whoever is AI'ing chatgpt should've done better teaching it the rules tbh. Folks were getting 48k zx spectrums doing that bitd.

Does the new puzzle mode inflate puzzle ratings? I'm 1800+ now which was well out of reach before the change.

Yeah I liked it but needed a hint on about the 3rd move.
