*not yet available on Kindle, and some paper editions are dodgy. I have the version which is just a facsimile of the original, apparently there is also a really bad OCR version out there so
is the version on gutenberg a doggy one?

That's "On the Economy of Machinery and Manufactures", which is available free on Kindle. I was talking about "Passages from the life of a philosopher". Page scans are available at http://books.google.co.uk/books/about/Passages_from_the_life_of_a_philosopher.html?id=Fa1JAAAAMAAJ&redir_esc=y

hm, this forum stopped working on my kindle. I can browse to the categories directly but search or new posts
don't work anymore. Same with some other forums or comment sections on other websites.
anybody noticed the same? -

read somewhere today that amazon are capping the 3g browsing to 50mb
if you near/ exceed it they choke the browsing to Amazon and Wiki only.it seems there was always a data limit but they never bothered enforcing it.

50mb per month? I can load pictures or heavy data news pages but not text forums

hm, I now lost the ability to load the front page completely but if I search in google for a thread I can
browse to it directly and then I can use the "search" and "new posts" links again.
its probably related to the https connection because I have to confirm that I want to continue
even with a non valid certificate for static.lfgss.com -

Is it waterproof?

Is there an easy way to have the news delivered to my kindle? I'm generally using google currents on my phone (s2) in the morning to catch the news but I really don't enjoy reading on such a small screen.

Am I being overly resistant to want something other than a kindle?
I'm drawn to the Sony T2 because it's not tied to the unique format of the kindle, plays well with pdfs (apparently), is small and light, easily borrows from my local library.
I know with Calibre you can convert books, but the library thing tugs at me.
The T2 retails for $140 out here, but I would probably wait till mid to late winter, so likely around $100.
Ideally, I'd like something like this http://wexler-global.com/products/79/347 once the technology matures, but of course if I always waited for that, I'd have a lot of extra cash and no toys. -

Kindles are awesome. It's strange to take a piece of technology with great battery life for granted in these modern times with smart phones barely lasting a day.
I just flick the swtich It's on standby in my bag and I occasionally charge it when I remember.

How do you "loan" books on Kindle then? I'm checking "manage my Kindle" as per the guide but for the life of me can't see anything about how to do it?

^^USA only, isn't it?
In other news - I'm very pleased to have got rid of the scary portrait screensavers and put on my own. Had a couple of worrying moments, but all went smoothly in the end.

Anyone want a current gen Kindle for 35 quid? There is a tiny crack in the plastic above the screen but apart from that it's in good nick. Can take pictures if anyone is interested.

Kindle Fire HD - Most Advanced 7" Tablet
I want one.
I just pulled the trigger.
Once again the screen broke and once again a new one appeared magically through the door the following day with no questions asked. Even appeared in my account preregistered. Fantastic service from amazon!
It did remind me that i have my original 3rd generation (keyboard) with a cracked screen. Does anyone have one which doesn't work but has a good screen they would like to sell me so I can try change it?
