Anyone looking to offload one if possible in the near future? 3G preferably...

Mine had some sort of screen failure over the weekend despite being in a case.
I'm hopeful that they will replace. Only one way to find out, you never know.

Rumour mill is that the refurbs aren't really refurbs. They're just offloading current generation stock ready for a new version.
Remember, if it's on the internet it must be true

Take it out of the case and keep it well away from the case. It is the case that causes it to fail.
Sad but true.

mines survived since release in the case. occasional crashes, but nothing a reboot won't fix.

The overheating issue only occurs if you charge the Kindle in its case. I use the hardcase protector, when I charge the kindle I sort of prop it at an angle with the face down. I think buying some kind of cover/sleeve is essential, just be weary of the folio style cases.
EDIT : The number of people that have actually seen that problem is hard to tell. Just looked on one of the Kindle forums.

Would anyone be interested in lending me a black Kindle (new style) for a photo-shoot. Beers and eternal gratitude would flow your way.

To be honest i'm not that excited by it.
one reason is that the Kindle is great as a book reader, also secondly (and most importantly IMHO) the battery life rock.

I don't expect it to replace my current Kindle - I'm all for single purpose hardware, when it's done well* - it's what it promises as a tablet that has me tingling, and at a price point that means I won't be concerned when I root it and turn it into a coaster.
- Except pdfs. Which are currently the bane of my life.
I pray for the day a tablet comes out that can handle PDFs well, and allow interaction with them via a stylus.

Everything should be in MS Word. Preferably in some obscure format from Word 4 era, with embedded images and fonts and password protection enabled. It should also be zipped and store on a floppy disk.
-
• #571
No, spanned across 4 floppy disks, one of which has been drilled so it could be formatted double density.
-
• #572
No, zipped with compression turned off. Encryption provided by plastic flakes from drilling..

500 yesterday.Just got emailed this again today, should I just get the wifi, or is the 3G really worth the extra dollar?

3g is worth it.
Free, globally.
And with the browser built in, that means free internet globally (though a little clunky).

Oh, and use this link before you buy:
you definitely need a case. broke mine from being dropped in a bag from about knee height, a glass was also in the bag and was unscathed. Amazon replaced without qualm but from reading online that is if its under a year old. Pretty much on your own if it breaks after a year, which is quite shit if you've bought a ton of books
