the screen appear pretty robust, probably far more robust to the fraglie LCD that we're used to,
just get an envelope and put it in there.

Bet that seemed like a good idea, to prove Ed wrong, didn't it?
How do you feel now? A bit silly, yep?
Oh Bainbridge.

Yes but I proved my point. On an Internet forum. It's important

The nice thing about the Kindle is that, like the original iPod, have one function.
it's nice to have a device where you can read a book in, and treat it as such, it's pretty rare for a product to have a single function in our world of muilt-functional gadget that wipe your arse as well as ringing the doorbell.
You know what I just figured out... If you turn it face down, it has zero useable functions. This thing is ticking all the boxes for me.

very true plus i dont wamt it gettimg scratched. writing this on my kimdle right now actually!
I think some of your buttons are broken.

Coaster/place mat ?

Hadn't considered that.
Over-specced IMHO.

not entirely, I did says it appear to be robust, and the image is the Kindle 2, apparenty the Kindle in general are robust.

I'd still buy a case for it Ed. I just need something to keep it in, I hate to think how much abuse it would get when It's in a flight bag. The £50 for a case + light is a rip off. I think I'll stick to ebay case and light.
-
• #312
The £50 case is very nicely designed an put together - Clefty has one.
I got the cheaper of the two purely because I did not want a light that was powered by the Kindle battery.
As far as I know only Amazon's own cases use the hinge ports built into the kindle which gives them a big advantage over other cases.
-
• #313
That's what I thought- I 'd rather be forced to go and find some light and have the Kindle last a month with no charging, than have a convenient light but 2 hour battery life.
In other news I have just bought some Sabots.
-
• #314
That's why I'd like a clip on light, you don't have to worry about draining the kindles battery when on holiday then.

Ed you can't treat it like a book.
i was talking about them with a friend who had just returned from a holiday in the maldives, he said people were trying to read them on the beach with towels over their heads so they could see the screen and what if you want to take a dip are you going to leave it on your towel? fine with a 5.99 paperback not for a £150 gadget. -

fine with a 5.99 paperback not for a £150 gadget.Too right, I will probably buy one of them ^^^ Guardian things for when I go on holiday, fuck getting sand and sun cream over it, they are a pain in the ass with normal books let alone an e book.
-
• #318
They are also, useless for placing under the leg of my heavy, but inconvieniently unevenlegged, solid oak desk to stop it wobbling. The screen cracked almost instantly.

And what kindle cases have people bought?
I made a homemade sleeve out of my mum's sturdy homemade felt. I think I knocked the screen though with my d-lock when it was in my bag. Got it replaced though so using home-made sleeve and the hardback folder/wallet-y type thing I got from Evans with my last bike.
V effective.

The Evans wallet idea is genius! Think I have one of those somewhere.

I think you must be referring to a non epaper device, so not a kindle. Kindle's get easier to read the brighter it is, since they work by reflecting, not emitting light. These "towel heads" of which you speak were probably trying to read an iPad which is a very fragile device.
-
• #323
Didn't clock that part of MrSmyth's comment.
Sound more like an iPad, those are awful to read on after using the Kindle.
-
• #324
I've just gone ahead and got an ebay case and clip on reading light. All for under 15 quid. I'll make sure I buy one of them guard things for when I go on holiday though.

Or they weren't wearing sunglasses and have extremely sensitive eyes.
Sounds weird though.
