  • Edge of the seat delivery action.

  • It was more for Dammit as he ordered the same day, but glad you guys are enjoying it.

  • I didn't know!

No-one ever really clicks on Amazon links from LFGSS so I never see what the rates are. Bike industry margins are so tight that their clickthrus are worth very little. But Amazon Kindle direct links are apparently worth a bomb.

In fact... we should create a "Found on Amazon" thread for people to do their Christmas shopping. I'm truly stunned.

The best story I heard on this was when a friend wrote a blog posting on the announcement of Google's chrome announcement. Someone clicked through his page to buy some chrome bathroom shelves from Amazon, earning him £20 in the process.

  • This thread is thrilling.

Is there a Kindle version of it? I'd like to enjoy it on the train home.

  • Just got the "shipped" email.

    But for me, nada.

Amazon is clearly a pro-hoser organisation.

  • This thread is kindling.

Fixed. If only you could burn threads ... ;)

  • FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Just checked, they have now dispatched it.

This would be great- if I had had the notification early enough to change the delivery address.

Sadly the Kindle will now go to my office tomorrow, then back to Milton Keynes when the City Link person finds that there is no-one there.

    (weeping smiley)

  • Milton Keynes is your nearest depot? WTF

  • I think that MK is a delivery hub, it's in transit from there to SE1 at the moment.

    Meh

  • Business address. So reception will collect or they will redeliver during the week.
I think that's what they do with ours.

  • Yeah, it is not really a problem- they will redeliver it on Monday, I'm just impatient and want my new toy ASAP.

  • Kindle arrived. PDF support seems fine (landscape mode does the job if the text seems too small). Got a bunch of articles and texts I need to read on there already. This + it's ability to take notes + a small note book + a pen = all I need to go study now. Pretty happy about that. Not having to lug a laptop around will be nice - especially because it will remove a lot of distractions.

Happy with the purchase so far.

Unfortunately they sent me a fuckered USB>MicroUSB cable. It won't hold a connection, and acts as if I'm plugging and unplugging constantly. Using my Desire's cable for now, but emailed Amazon to ask for another one.

  • Are you posting on here with it?

  • i didnt but this is a post from it. its not perfect but neat. bit cumbersome to navigate around. rad feature though.

  • DIE!

Try test.lfgss.com for posting and let me know how it is.

And also how you feel the styles compare between old and new on the kindle. (I'm half suspecting old will be better because of the white background for now.)

I find the new site much quicker to load, navigate and use. You are right that it feels a bit weird in the reverse colour - but I strangely don't mind it at all.

Yeah, really fast, not too bad to get around (will always be a bit awkward without a touch screen or mouse), and the colours are not an issue (for me). Eink, at least with the new generation of kindles, is fine for light on dark.

Taking off on Friday for the Netherlands and Germany. Here's hoping the 3G and browser work there. If so, I'll be using the kindle for forumenging.

Some one needs to hack these things. They are surprisingly versatile. Having global 3G (which will, at least, always work with Amazon and Wiki - there must be a way to take advantage of this?) plus wifi could make them decent little wifi hotspots. It'd also be great to get some sort of email app on them. Receiving my gmails in a folder as individual books while away would be great.

I did subscribe to the IHT, so I look forward to having the paper show up everyday while away (although, the IHT seems to be relying on the Times more than it used to, a few years back).

So far, I like the Kindle.

  • Anyone got a light for their kindle? I may just by a regular book light from Waterstones.

It'd be cool to get something like the old GBA side-light hacks.

  • My Kindle, it arrive.

  • Got mine on saturday, up and running. Converted a couple of books from Project Guttenburg, so far so good. Calibre is a really good tool, how it integrates with the Kindle services is quite neat. I know its not hard since it's just email. But it works in a single click as stated. Going to pick up a few books from the Kindle store to compare the experience.

  • Calibre?

really good if you have a lot of books that aren't from amazon, and also for getting newspapers and magazines for free

  • Ah, cheers.

I cannot seem to stop loading books onto my newest toy.

    It's great!

  • mine arrived. hopefully the forum got the £££
