If in the market now, I would try some of the new velcro one-piece straps like the JOL, Chicago wig or similar.

Now, I like feetbelts, but on the other hand, I also like power grips...
But which is better?

Srsly? same shit different smell innit.
personally i reckon if your gonna go with straps, thos minus hardware are your best bet (ala JOL etc)

whatever you get make sure you know it fits your pedals. i.e. power straps don't fir odyssey plastic pedals. I'm finding it difficult to get hold of ant others!!

This chap is making straps that are a cross between Holdfast and JOL - good price too at 20 quid a pop

I have the Jols and they are awesome, but obviously he has moved to OZ now so hard to get hold of.
I have mine on DMR V12's and they were so grippy i ended up removing all the pins bar one on the top of the pedals. Pic taken before i removed the pins

How do they compare with clipless? Does the foot feel as secure?
Guessing it doesn't but would like opinions of people who have used both as I would like to try them out (mainly to allow me to piss around doing wheelies, 180s etc, which I don't feel too good doing in clipless but still want to do 20 mile rides without having to swap pedals over)

I think they all look inferior to clipless but then I've not tried them. Surely non-hardware ones are better than powergrips.

Are they actually any use for anything other than trick track riding? It seems only trick guys use them. Or am I wrong?

I have wig straps. They're fuckin mint; fully adjustable so your feet can be in as tight/loose as you want really. I use them with odyssey twisted bmx pedals. Very minimalistic and comfy! Only issue is they're a ballache when your sneakers are wet, but what isn't.
I got them for xmas but I think they have them at Tokyo Fixed Gear I'm pretty sure.

What's the problem in the wet? Feet slipping out?
Never had a problem with clips and straps in the wet. Or eggbeaters.

Trust the Velcro. Ill be "rocking" a pair of these as soon as my 50mm velcro arrives..

Im naively hoping for some slightly less ghetto sewing though..

They dont compare to clipless - i use Time Atacs on most of my bikes.
Its a different feeling, the biggest difference i would say is the shoe. I wanted a set up i could use with trainers - the shoe is very secure in the strap, but trainers are crap compared to a proper cycling shoe.
I dont play polo or do tricks, but i much prefer them to my old clips and straps.

They look like a good solution, but seem extortionate for what they are.
Ordinary toestraps used to be about £3, now they are £20+ ffs and it's hard to find single laminated leather ones, everybody seems to want double ones.

.Five Ten impacts are they best cycling trainer I have ever had, going on 5 years and still looking pretty new. with pinned bmx pedals they stick like tagnuts to a goat's arse. I use them with my ss cross bike, but I reckon with a brake you could run fixed with no real danger if you kept off long downhills.
would straps like those fit a very wide shoe?

Supply and demand, people can charge what the hipster market are willing to pay...
Powergrips are more tried-and-tested, but Feetbelts may be harder wearing (being made out of seatbelts).
Also Chicagowig, JOL, Holdfast, **Dualism , Restrap **and **Aurora **.....and even more linked here.
Who uses or can recommend either/any of them?
EDIT: Other strap systems brought to light by Provenrad, **vinylvillain, porter7474 and muleboy**.
