that's just mud and dirt, not rust.
That orangey/brown colour on the teeth/whole chain? Da, thats iron oxide. Rust.

I wouldnt want to put anything heavy on that rack seen as though it's resting on a QR skewer rather than a solid axle.

CETMA sell their racks as being compatible with QRs. You'll find plenty of racks on QRs in their Flickr set: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lancekagar/sets/72157624969797529/
I have a rack running on a QR and having carried many beers, weekly food shops, a Brompton amongst other things and not found it to be a problem at all.

^ ah ok
all the racks I was looking at said they were not QR compatible but I didnt look at CETMA in too much detail because the website said they were out of stock.

Build this one for the misses. It's a Locomotief 26" frame with 28 x 1 1/2 wheels and some new, some modded and some salvadged parts.
Plan was to keep it ratty, thought she might not like that and changed my mind to paint it with all new parts. So I opted for a (cheap) modern crankset, for which I had to get a bushing machined to fit a bb in it's old type bb shell.
Eventually previous bike got stolen, semi-finished this in a hurry and showed it. She loved it and didn't want a paintjob, so I even 'ratted' it out a bit more. Perfect. :)
Need to do some last minor things, probably switch to a more suitable older crankset and find / fabricate a smaller frontcarrier.

Yeah the All City with full mudguards is a Big block, guards look really clean
Freakxie cleverly stupid rat bike. Between anti, cheap, rat and frankenbike.
Gwoshh, the crankset shred!
