Anyone got a beater they want to part with? I need something to lock up in central London daily for a couple of weeks.

You need a full bike or just a frame?
-
• #6254
You were right about that btw, the rear has got a kink in it. Must have been from the accident aswell.
Pretty surprised that bike made it to Brighton haha
I was pretty surpirsed you/the bike made it to Angel.
You flew like supper men bra.

^^
Anything really. A full bike would be ideal though as I haven't really got time to hunt down all the parts and throw something together.
I started a wanted thread here: http://www.lfgss.com/thread104817.html
So we can keep this one for rat porn :)

Shit sorry Dom, was gonna offer you my Dave then realised you were a fair bit smaller than me.
I can probably offer some parts up though.
At least a quill.

like that a lot

it's a fluoro faux-pro serotta with wishbone stays. it doesnt belong in ratbikes/be given a better fate..
-
• #6262
just because it's dirty doesn't mean it's a rat
it just means it's been ridden ... regularlythere should be rust / scratches / a broken spoke or two and some truly horrendous parts on a rat
the last two examples shouldn't be here surely
-
• #6263
Then again, it could be some one's beater..
-
• #6264
We might as well start posing a load of hybrid commuter bikes if we're going down those lines.

depends on whether you consider the term "rat" to be pejorative.
To me that serotta is a rat. i.e. a decent quality bike showing very obvious signs of heavy usage.
Beaters on the other hand are anti-theft, low cost, low-maintenance.To my mind a rat doesn't need horrendous parts or poor maintenance - rats are ridden with pride.

I think that a rat should still look ratty even if given a proper clean - that serotta frame at least could be pretty minty under all the slush, but it's hard to tell I grant. Not cleaning your bike makes you lazy rather than a rat owner.

Apols for reader's wife, but this is (I think) a good example: dents and scratched decals but in good working order...

Not cleaning your bike makes you busy rather than a rat owner.
I haven't cleaned my beater in about 5 months as it got so dirty commuting every day. It's maintained but not cleaned.

Exactly, my bike sees alot of everyday use, so it needs parts of decent quality for that reason, the bikes rides so good for this reason but doesnt look as nickable as my other bikes. I think if i had a bike with horrendous parts and poor maintenance, i wouldn't even want to ride it.

Interesting. I think it's probably quite a personal thing what one defines as cleaning vs. maintenance. I'm definitely towards the obsessive get the dirt off after every ride end, but I do have the luxury of time to do it.

The chain gets cleaned as does the braking surface of the rim. Pedals and chain lubricated regularly. Everything else whenever it needs attention. The frame is meant to be a light pink but the chainstay is almost black.
Every other bike gets cleaned straight after a ride, but not the beater as I often don't get home until late.

Decided to get rid of most of the shitty yellow on mine.
Another fail.

Yeah you wish!
Nah I am sure it happened on the ride because I was near you for a fair bit of the riding in london when everything was sunny and my glasses weren't steamed and I only noticed it after turners when my glasses were wet and steamed so it must have been some time on the way.
