I guess if they spent that much on it over time because they ride it every day and need high end parts that will last, i'm sure people could spend a few grand over the years

In my book beater is a frame of mind... My now one and only fixed gear "one bike fits all purposes" beater is a virtually brand new frame with all new components. A like-for-like build would easily set you back £2300 at current UK retail prices.

that's nice that is. Having been hunting for a Cannondale Track in 54 or 56 for a few months now, I was excited to walk into Kerin Cafe in Berlin and see one hanging up. Unfortunately it was snapped and not for sale so I spent most of the rest of the day wondering what could have been. Anyhow, if someone has one then please pm me and I will give you lots of money or a Brooklyn Gangsta Track :).
