ingenious really, steepens geo, narrows spacing, gives track ends...
Also raises bb.
and rotates under pressure
Wouldn't be hard to extend the shape along the chain stays and clamp it on to stop that?
Fine line between beater and death trap...
There is no line, my beater is a deathtrap.
One of the reasons I feel safe locking it up in dodgy places is the fact it will prob kill anyone that tries to steal it.
The best anti theft device is a handlebar that rotates when the brake is pulled :)

From the photo on the yellow frame it looks like they've got a screw/bolt/dowel to prevent rotation - but I like the idea of making something a bit more substantial to eithet clamp around the whole dropout, or onto the chainstay....
I developed a new anti-theft device yesterday morning, when you after a brief skid the wheels start moving again... then you hear the 'ting' of lockring on axle and adopt the " traffic free path"
Bit of a bugger cos it was a very beautiful hub....
mmm death-trap porn

No idea if this counts, but I used to ride this to and from work.
Old Carrera Kraken frame, rattlecanned matt black (now being run with 100mm sus forks and 1x9 as my XC bike) some dodgy short steel dirt jump rigids, 26" with slicks, singlespeed with a dodgy tensioner and the worst mechanical disc brakes ever. Oh, and flat bars and barends 'cause I couldn't afford drops or bullhorns.

^ that counts for sure - very nice sir
would look amazing with drops - and also with suspension as a dirt jump rat! -

It morphed into this:
Surprisingly fast, keep thinking about replacing the frame but despite it being a tad heavy it handles exceptionally well.

Looks great - And with that rattlecan paint job noone need ever know it came from halfords - win

Haha yeah all round win. It is getting old now, 2005 frame.
Cheers as well, I kinda like how it looks, the paint's a lot tattier now too!

We may simply have to wait whilst the currently scruffy bikes gradually become rat bikes before anything much else can be posted in here

Love that Ciocc conversion.

The problem is that some modern production bikes have much tougher paint jobs, which is a bitch as I really want my mash to get totally ratted!

Sticker it!

^^ I'd disagree, if you go back to the 60s or earlier, many of those paint jobs used formulations that included nasty materials that held on tighter than white on rice.

And lots have paint that falls off as soon as you look at it.

This. I reckon that if what we would call modern bikes are still in one piece in 40-50 years time they will look very very different to how bikes from 40-50 years ago do now.
Sticker it!
Stickers do not a rat make.

Both valid comments actually.
Although on my mash the paint seems to be pretty much indestructible so far.

Also how come the colour changed so dramatically?
