Soma rack is better as it's stiffer and have panniers mount underneath.
Gamoh rack is good for the money, but they flex like hell.

If there isn't one already, I'm tempted to start a "Best Rack" thread... although I fear it might get derailed somewhat.

Anyone know how good the Velo Orange rack is?
Its exactly the same dimensions as the Some rack, but doesn't have pannier mounts, but those mounts look like they serve a duel purpose as strut supports.
Having never seen one in use, I have no idea if they're any better or not.

I've owned VO racks; the Taiwanese factories that they use seem to have a good grasp of quality control. When you say good you mean are they capable of carrying their claimed weights? No problem. The welds are clean? Lots of pics out there, you decide. Good design? The French thought so.

The Velo Orange one is very good, lighter than the Soma, but I'd go for Soma due to the panniers mounts.
The Soma I think felt stiffer and heavier than the Velo Orange, like really stiff enough to make the front end stiffer.

If you think that those two struts on the VO going down to the mounting point at the axle have nothing to stop them bowing out under heaver load, while the Soma one does have that pannier mounting bar which also acts as a support to tie the two struts together and so less likely to move at all.
I would expect the Soma one to be a little heavier, but noticeably?
As the cheapest I've found either with rail is about £120-130, I'd be tempted to buy the Soma, as even if I don't currently use panniers, it doesn't hurt to have the option I always think.

People always put skinny tyres on as well, always think they should at least have some 32c's to fill out the clearance, gives it slightly more pedal clearance in the corners and making the most of the relaxed geometry they usually have.

I particularly like the aspirational Colnago spoke-card
is that a cyclometer cable running down the headtube - for the beater rider who needs training stats....? -

You should've seen the new fork on my Tokyo Fixed Dream Machine.
Let just says it made the original BMW Gangsta fork look tight.

It is a movie prop, I looked at the link and it said it was built by Affinity and inspired by 'Stoned Tone's bike which explains the period correct fixé parts and stickers.
this is true although affinity are actually selling a limited run of the same bike, presumably with a very similar aesthetic as well as set-up.

It's a Affinity metropolitan in "limited edition white" with a set of stickers so you can "customize" it yourself.. Yeah a beater kit!
they had, if they dont anymore, search for minoura gamoh porteur front rack.
loads of suppliers.
