Not understanding the Surly sticker
Think it's meant to look like it says GIRLY.
Love that battered Rossin on the last page. Would be good to see it built up!

Not sure it would... its the same frameset that appeared in anti recently. Owner painted it since that photo. Massive Fail. I cried a little inside.

My rat!Very slack ST angle. It would suite north road bars for lazy sunday cruising. And a brake.

Bought the frame from here as a 1940's Saxon track! I'm thinking of porteur bars and brake is coming just waiting for the lever!

Readers rat...
Feel free to post more photos of Les. I ment to add it to this thread when it first popped up in current projects but it clearly slipped my mind.

just because you have a fixed idea as to what may or may not be a rat bike, frankenbike or beater, should not limit the possibilities of posting what I think of as a rat, frank or beater. 90% of the 'rat' bikes in this thread are fakeups, the style junkies are hijacking the content. I am merely posting 'interesting' finds. what is sad is that there is a discussion going on about how to fit front racks onto track bikes. Get a fucking grip, this is only the internetz.
make a new, seperate thread where you can post the "'interesting' finds" and not give a fuck about everyone else in your cool way so people know to avoid it. do get a grip, this is only an internet forum so why are you persisting in posting that uninteresting crap when people ask you to stop?
"fat old man's shitty google image search" has a good ring to it, in case you were struggling for a title

This lad seems to talk sense to be fair, is he being viewed as a "troll"?
I am also about to fit a front rack to a track biker though so what do I know... -

The way Iook at it:
Ratbike - loved and well looked after but used and abused, battlescarred porn....
Beater - (typically) something you can leave locked up without worry about too much, maybe thrown together from the parts bin for not alot of money. A fun bike that may not be aesthetically pleasing in a traditional manner, but is a hoot to ride.
Of course, there is some crossover...
I don't know where new bikes covered in stickers comes into this though.
Fatoldbloke - hope the above gives some clarificationz.

"only the internetz" seems to be used by all sides in this rambunctious tete a tete. Wish I could have you all out for a mini-cap over at X-Cues, where we could finally establish what, exactly, we mean when we virtually yell the above statement as a way of telling someone else to shut it or stop posting. If it's "only" then it really doesn't matter and there's no need to get all pissy AND to tell the offending poster to stuff it. Plainly said, "only the internetz" should be stated in a mild manner, as befits the intention.
I welcome the "whothafukareyu" rejoinders. -

I have a basket on an entirely inappropriate bike at the moment, that means it belongs in here right?
I don't anticipate it affecting the handling too much as I plan to use it exclusively for carrying cake and beer (and sometimes breakfast maybe).
Down in London for a day, saw you riding this past the Palace Theatre just before 12. Looked great, tempted by a front basket now.

Baskets appear to be the aesthetic de jour. Baskets > backpack/courier bag etc. Probably not. It's a bit dog in a handbag. Throw a 12 can bargain pack of tuborg in there or 12 bottles of cider, without bungee cords (carry on) and even with It's going to handle like a bag of shopping on each end of the handle bar. The bike looks great without this pandering to baskets which cycle weapons of mass being a weapon has tried to jump the shark with his latest creation.
At the end of the day it matters not one whit, enjoy your bicycle visibly. /Kenneth Williams

thats not real rust, is it?
The frame's covered in pitting so I guess that is real rust, but the cranks have probably been done with something like this:
http://www.performancevwmag.com/newsitem.asp?newsID=66
The whole bike looks like it's been powdercoated turd-brown.
-
• #1574
Lol, that "rust-paint" is a cool idea, but a bit fake haha.
-
• #1575
Yeah it's especially fake-looking when you put it on aluminium crank arms.
