The parts you choose and how you lock it will probably make more of a difference than some chips in the paint, you chose a pretty subtle frame.

Deliberately doing things to damage your bike's paint job seems a bit poserish.

Rat patina should be a product of loving your bike enough to ride the shit out of it everyday.

Idk about all yall but there's not much difference between intentionally locking your bike up like a total fuckwit because you're so hardcore and you shred the shit out of your bike and you don't give a fuck and that's just the way you are and just inflicting the same cosmetic damage at once because that's the look you're after is there. Genuine wear and tear takes a long time, speeding it up by either locking it up like a loon all the time or just hitting it a few times with a chain whip is equaly legitimate to me.

It should take time to get a true rat. A rat must live and should evolve, not be born as a rat out of the box. A few rattle cans and a using a chain whip doesn't make it a true rat. Shred it, abuse it, use it. It's not a hardcore thing, it's just how it should work. And why damage it in the first place? It's a bike, shred the shit out of it and hope nothing breaks. Or let Indra borrow it XD.

word up! Just ride :)

apply paint stripper to areas that will wear (chain stay, top tube, drop outs)
wipe off areas of paint thoroughly (the weaker strength stuff is better as will leave some primer on)
build up with ratty tape and cranks
ride through mud
don't clean

That gets delicately cleaned with baby wipes every time it faces the harsh conditions outside of my house.
