there's loads of bikes around covered in that shit. I've seen them outside Mother in Shoreditch, one in Carnaby street, one in Brick lane. I've even seen them in New York on some guys flickr.

OK, I promised my frankenbike submission, and here it is - my girlfriend's build:
There's a variety of mods to it - dynamo hub, 27" alloys instead of the original steels, etc. I think the thing that tips it into frankenbike territory is probably the headlight which I ended up having to mount in the front of the basket. Kind of makes me think of:

Just because you built it yourself doesn't make it a frankenbike...
It is a nice bike though.

Yeah, I love the build, but it's more functional thread or even porn than rat/franken/beater...
..not trying to be a forum nazi just saying, it's a bit nice for in here!

Thanks for the kind comments! Maybe it looks weirder in the flesh...Perhaps I should have put it in the porteur thread so Scoble could pass judgement! You can't see it from this picture but at some point I think the original owner pranged something - the forks are slighty bent back at the crown resulting in twitchy handling. Apparently there's a place on Mare Street that can straighten them which I think would make it handle better with a full basket.
The next build is planned to be a bare metal Falcon frame with a 1957 dyno-hub 3 speed and a front dyno hub - lights up the wazoo, and definitely more Frankenrat!
