  • Is he still on in the eves?

  • Gideon Coe and Steve Lamaq (sp) both NOT northerners.

  • Is he still on in the eves?

    Friday evenings i think.

  • Found out from a friend who works as a producer at Radio 1 that last 6music found that their listeners were mainly women aged 18-25 and Men aged 30-45 (or there abouts) so they tried to adjust their style to meet these two groups. To me that sounds impossible!

She went to the BBC as a producer with the hope of working on 6music but now views it as a backward step.

  • Tom Robinson was born in Cambridge

Tom Robinson has *apalling *taste in music. One of his "features" is named after an Alanis Morrisette song.

I don't listen to morning or daytime 6music (can't stand Laverne or Lamb) but the moment i get in the door everynight it's radio on for Marc Riley followed by Gideon Coe. Can't really imagine life without them now. It's the sound of of cooking, eating and washing up!

Maconie's freak zone is excellent and Adam and Joe are always fun... although recently they've been getting on my nerves a bit with the mass of unfunny features. They're at their best when they're floundering amateruishly I think. Jarvis's new show on Sunday is good and Huey can play some great older stuff. There's a lot to like about 6music but also a lot of drivel.

I bought a DAB radio to be able to get 6 but it has undoubtedtly gone downhill in recent years. I find it weird that a station that is at pains to call itself 6MUSIC has so many shows presented by comedians with only a passing interest in music. And the 6music news is pointless and irritating. The "headlines" tend to be things like"member of indie band says something inconsequential regarding their latest album in an interview broadcast on this station this morning"... every half an hour ALL FUCKING DAY!

  • It's better than Planet Rock though eh?

  • Deja Vu
    Unknown FM.net

mmm i love unknownFM! been listening to that station for months, some great house music on there. also to be found on 108.0FM, although they never seem to publicize this freq. this on air for some reason.

  • I am listening to Lauren now, I like having her on the radio, it means I am going to enjoy the music, just making up words does not make you right!

I do not think 6music is as good as when it started but it is better now that George Lamb is not on in the day, I have nothing against the man but I think his style is better suited on Virgin or Capital or something like that.

I say save it for the fans of good non-chart music. Pavement and Pharcyde in the last hour, not going to happen anywhere else.

I don't like her style, sorry. She's a bit XFM for me.

  • She dumbed the Culture Show down, although that was probably not all down to her

  • I never even heard of BBC 6 until the other day.. it's now my favourite radio station!

  • Giving BBC6 a shot today. I usually just work with MP3s, as DJs distract me. We'll see how it goes.

The best radio show I've ever had the pleasure of listening to was Brave New Waves on CBC. Midnight to 4am on weekdays, on Canada's equivalent of BBC Radio 3 (CBC Radio 2). Was cancelled a few years ago (ugh!), but I think some of you would have loved it - you could hear everything from pieces by John Zorn, to interviews with Xiu Xiu/the Elephant 6 boys and girls/David Byrne/Constellation Records peeps/etc., to pieces on Chicago art rock (Gastr del Sol/David Grubbs/Jim O'Rourke), etc.. And it had its fair share of electroacoustic pieces. I had a friend who was unsigned, sent in his album, and was the opening song twice. Fucking awesomeness.

I got stuck with the editor of the culture show at a wedding the other day. I can assure you dumb was not all Lauren's.

Just adopted 6 music here in our workshop. The playlist becomes as repetitive as any radio station with a few curve balls thrown in.

Lauren is good fun, and Nemone pretty much pulls you through the afternoon with a good sprinkiling of hipity hop.

Luckily i leave work before Lemac completely drives me up the wall. The programmes are much better in the evening, I must admit.

  • Lamaqc's ok. I just wish he'd LIVE IN THE NOW a bit more. Everytime I get home in time to catch his show he's playing Sleeper, or Menswear or Suede or Cornershop or Elastica... c'mon Steve, I liked 'em at the time too but it's time to let the 90s go!

  • it's time to let the 90s go!

I disagree. I think they should stay in prison.

  • I give up on it. Less talk, more rock.

(Although it was cool to hear some Owen Pallett).

The daytime shows are pooey. Try it again at 7-12pm if you're still about. Perhaps they should take BBC4 idea and just not broadcast at all during the day? After all at that time they're competing with all the major warehouse/white van friendly stations anyway. Maybe they should just bring the weird in the evenings when all the 30-something middle class office drones/music snobs get home to cook their teas?

Although the day time programming is a bit samey, us middle class music snobs can't handle XFM / Radio 1 for even 5 minutes.

The interviews and live sessions are always spot on. Scientists, Movie reviews, BOOK reviews. It's good, just not great.

  • Noticed that 6Music won two Sony awards last week (was it them? some award anyway) for Jarvis (best newcomer! arf!) and Adam and Joe. The following week they made it over 1M listeners. almost 100% uplift in a year... in some respects this strategy review has been the best thing that's ever happened to them.

Enjoyed Gid on the breakfast show last week. I can't get on with Keaveny really. Shut up about Zeppelin FFS!

  • I have given up on 6 Music and turned to LastFM.
their constant playing of the god awful shit fuck of a tune about drunk girls was doing mu melon so i broke the radio... complete accident but its now broke

  • You mean the new LCD Soundsystem? I like it. In a White Light/White Heat, Roadrunner homage kind of way. And it's got the word "paedophiles" in it.

  • yeah that (is it LCD soundsystem?) one is lame. As is that new MIA one. And music news is annoying. I don't care if babybird has a new album in the pipeline, or if sting is going on tour. just put it on the website, thats 3min when you could have played some silver jews.

    Amen.

  • I agree except for the silver jews bit. It's depressing listening to musicians taking life seriously enough to think anyone gives a shit about how they spend time in the studio.

It's like that line about why you should never talk through a joke. It's like dissecting a frog, no one's interested and the frog dies.
