Ha. I have just ordered the mavic elipse front wheel with a view to purchasing the rear next month and was wondering the exact same thing. I am hoping it gives the same chainline as my dura ace so I can just swap them over when I need to without bollocking around

you need a mavic lockring. condor sell 'em for a tenner.
i tried a dura ace to see what it fitted like, and it didn't look happy as i started to put it on, so stopped.chainline is like 43mm or something.

well, this ain't as bad as it sounds
one of my buddys in leeds had a duraace on and the threads do fit ok (kind of) but it doesn't grip the cog quite tight enough. so after a bit of riding the wheels were fucked and had to be sent back to mavic - they really should supply the wheels with the correct lockring!? who wouldn't be running a lockring anyway? -

some one riding on the track where the wheels were designed to be used maybe?

who wouldn't be running a lockring anyway?
99% of the intended audience, trackies, don't use a lockring, ever.
Same with the comete, mine came without, asked mavic, they said they don't supply because no one uses them.
@mikec - Chainline is close enough to regular* to not matter.
*I have tried prolite rose, campag pista, corima, navigator pista, miche.

Cheers Guy. I don't think I will need to worry about lock rings. Although I always use one at HH

Me too, it makes pulling a massive skid down the home straight much more fun. :-)

they must cost a quid to manufacture - if it was supplied you would use it though right?
if you as a manufacturer knew that no-one elses lockrings fit surely it would save you a lot of hassle!
they had to replace warrens free of charge when he kicked off.p.s i haevn't run a suicide hub for a long long time - not since i was a skint student and i definitely ran brakes back then anyway

i highly doubt that 99% of the owners of mavic ellipse are trackies

No, most oldschool trackies would throw it in the bin. Some old idea that it is somehow safer to run without one. Long and boring reasoning, best kept for trackside discussions.
99% of the 'intended' audience. 100% of which are trackies.
They are track wheels, for the track.
Mavic couldn't give a flying f*ck about people using them on the road, which would probably immediately void the warranty as that is not their intended use.

If anyone else is after one of these, I also have one for sale.
Looking for £130 with the Mavic lockring.
Yo crane sorry to dredge this up, do you know what chainline this wheel gives?
