^^ I had them on my Genesis when I bought it. Good tyres.
On a random related note, I had to change a car tyre last night. It was -4C. Fuck me my hands were numb after that even with 2 pairs of gloves on.

On another random note, I had a proper banana skin moment last night walking back through the alley from the shops.
WAC :-)

This morning I casually strolled onto a huge patch of ice without realising, then noticed it, stopped, took a careful step and immediately fell over.

I'm now of out for a ride. Fingers crossed!

Cool. I never realised that 29er are basically 700c but wider. I courre tly have 700x45c tyres on my Leader. I am thinking of getting some 29x2.0 which is the equivelent of 700x50c!!!! My frame and forks can take up to 55c i believe.

those resist tyres are 700 but are available in like 48c or something are they not?
-
• #83
Yeah i got the 45c tanwalls. They are basicaly larger Demolition Momentum tyres. No tread, so I am gonna try and get some Continental 29ers for these conditions and stick the resist nomads back on in the summer. Saying that i used to smash the Dolan on 28c Randos in the snow.

The area around the shop were we do all our test riding is still completely iced over; had a lot of fun drifting a little mtb around yesterday. No chance of me riding my fixed though, not with slick 23c's!

^^ I'm running 28 randos at the moment and they don't fill me with confidence at all. I feel like im on the verge of slipping at all times. Mind you, some of it is probably The Fear(tm) inherited from 6 weeks ago. Had I not had the accident at all I'd probably be more gung-ho about the whole thing. Today to ride into work I took some air out of them and lowered my saddle considerably to throw me back over the rear wheel more. Helped. But mind you the roads are now pretty much back to normal anyway.

yeah just watch out for the crusty shit at the edges!

^ This. Just got back in and it was ok other than the above.

HTFU ;-)
Was riding fixed with aslick 23 on the front and a slick 28 on the back. Mind you I was trying to miss the ice not to drift around on it!! -
• #88
Yeah, it's difficult where I live though, as there is nowhere to dodge the ice, it's literally still all frozen, bloody ridiculous. Plus, that extra 5mm on the back is like running a studded Nokian or something!

So who rode this morning then?
After my boasting ^^ I totally failed on slicks 23's/28's this morning. Couldn't get any traction at all so gave up after about 10ft. Time to consider a SS 29er with studded tyres I think.

Can recommend that course of action - I was fine on my SS 29er with Halo Twin Rails at 80psi.

On another note, how would I find out what clearance I have got - width-wise? If I measure how far apart the seat stays (or forks) are at the appropriate point, in mm, is that the widest tyre I can get (give or take some mm)? I mean, if I measure the gap as 40mm, I am assuming I am safe with some 700x35, but pushing it to try 700x38. Is that how it works?

I found the roads really clear this morning. Commuted in like any other day really. The only dodgy bit is the estate streets that aren't covered by a bus route
-
• #93
For next year however I am definitely going either the Pompino route or cheap MTB hack with nobblies :)

this. no worries. really need to fix up a better mudguard for the back though. my bag is covered in salty road grime

Been fine on the roads with 23c gatorskins last couple of days...still want a SSCX though for fun in woods and stuff...

I've been riding every day since it snowed. I've converted my polo bike to a snow bike.
I'm running 28c cyclocross tyres which just fit under my mudguards.
My commute goes through Chapelfield gardens and Lakenham Way to get work so no luxury of clear roads, well I could change my route but thats no fun.I'm going to change to 26in wheels for next year. 26 x 1.9in and 700c x 23 have the same rolling circumference. I'm thinking of using a respaced disc brake front wheel with bolt on cog for rear wheel. One of these:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/26-italien-beretta-front-mtb-disc-wheels-nutted-axles-in-silver-alloy-/360562177624?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&hash=item53f32e3658.

Fuck yeah Ben... Bringing the hack out. You the man! Hows things?

My life is quite bland.

Winner. That bike looks well suited to the weather...

went out on my 23s yesterday night, was heading to earlham road, but decided not to go the town way, and instead cut through st bennys and under the west pottergate underpass. Worst decision this week; ten bells lane was a nightmare, and all the packed ice on the back roads was just awful, never felt so unstable on a bike before, had to get off to stop myself faceplanting several times. On the plus side SPDs make fine snow shoes!
Came home this morning fine on the roads though, think I'll stick to that in future.
Them tires look shit hot.
Now just need a frame that will fit 35's :-)
