  • is there a date yet Teddy please?

  • we're wanting to raise more money for charity this year. would you be opposed to paying £5-10 to participate in the tweed run if it all went to charity?

  • me personally?
    no,
I work for a charidee, its tough times.

  • Would be worth every penny!

  • would be worth every pennyfarthing!

    ftfy

  • :)

  • guessing the dates here,. its unlikely to be Marathon weekend, or Easter weekend,
that leaves the first 2 sats which Ive both booked, hmmm.

  • Then wrap it with tweed instead like he did in 2009.

Thanks fuck it didn't rain - would have weighed a ton!

Didn't get all the tweed off for a good few weeks after that.

  • Now I'm all excited about Tweed 3. Whoop.

  • I would be more than happy to pay, but I think it should be £10 rather than a fiver, and some of the price could go to the organising.
I can't believe the organisers weren't out of pocket by a quid or three at the end of last years run, and having a budget to work with would improve what is already an outstanding event.

I'm just wondering how I can justify a tailored three piece tweed to Mrs Lucifer!

Pip pip, and hurry on with setting a date, my good man!

  • In fact, Teddy, why not start the Tweed Run 3 2011 (Official Thread)?

  • Will you bring the horde or will it just be the Prince of Darkness on his own?

  • Personally I'm against the charitification of everything...

Love the tweed run, and if you ask for money to help organise, pay for stuff all well and good.
Just tired of everything that I find enjoyable asking me for a little cash to give to someone else, somewhere else. I don't doubt the charity will be more than deserving of whatever people give, but I've felt for a while that why we do things shouldn't be defined by how much we can do for charity.

Can't we just have fun without it having to do something/mean something more?

Will it make it more fun to have an entrance fee which goes to a charity or will it make you feel good and kind and benevolent. I'd rather just have fun on the bike, wearing tweed and being gentlemanly for an afternoon...

  • ^ Look, I know we missed out on Van Bommel... ; )

  • Personally I'm against the charitification of everything...

the tweed run has always raised money for bikes4africa. we did about £600 the first year, and something like £4000 last year.

regardless of if there's an entrance fee or not, we'll still raise money somehow for them.

I find easier to explain to those who ask why do we prance in full tweed.

  • ^ that's a fair point

  • my original thinking with the tweed run is that it should be a free day. i got sponsors to pay for most things, and i ended up shelling out a bit the first time (and a lot more the second time). but i liked that it was an event where everything was provided and you walked away with as much money in your pocket as you showed up with.

i do think though that the event should have more purpose than just to have fun. it's months and months of organising for us. we're clearly not in it for the money or the glory, and sorry corny but i don't really love you enough to give up six months of my life so that you can have a fun afternoon. it has to have some greater ressonance for me than a bunch of blog posts and a few cute pictures in the guardian.

so this year, we want to see if we can raise a really good chunk of cash for our chosen charity. it's still pretty good value at £5 or £10 (if we told you how much money we actually spend per participant, you'd wince) and we have a few other good fundraising ideas, so if there isn't a great opposition to the entrance fee that goes to charity, we'll do that this year.

  • and a few cute pictures in the guardian

    Oi!

  • i've heard talk that it was going to be a slightly shorter route this year, anyhow...

That'd be a bit of a shame, while I find the route last year a bit short (compare to 2009) I though it was quite a good run, just enough to enjoy the ride, but not long enough for those who hasn't cycled for quite a while.

Would advertising the charity aspect a lots earlier before the Tweed Run would work? or has that been done already?

  • this was my fisrt ride since joining the forum last year, and would be happy to pay

it was actually longer last year than in 2009. but who's counting, anyhow.

  • ...but it did take forever to get everyone round, Ed! At an average of about 2mph most of the time.

  • I'd be up for paying towards charity, If It's something which you enjoy why not pay for it?

  • Even at £10 I reckon it would be oversubscribed.

No qualms about paying, even as a marshall.
