  • At the same time organisers should take responsibility and clean up as well and maybe give a time penalty to anyone spotted littering...

    Penalty is usually listed in the rules as instant DQ. I have never seen any penalty given. Maybe if the penalty was a cockpunch, people might take it a bit more srs.

  • Ironman rules say both drafting and littering are both red card offences, each carrying a 4m00s time penalty.

    3 red card offences (can be a mix of those two offences) means disqualification. No idea if this occurs in reality though.

    Wow with 3 months to go! Ambitiously short training!

    I'm doing it too, looks tough but then I guess that's kind of the point!

  • did city to summit iron man the other weekend. was a great event and couldn't fault anything at all. loved every minute of it. will most likely be signing up again next year.

    got round in 14hrs 19 and was happy with that considering i wasn't fully fit and was nursing a slight tear on one of my hamstrings.

  • ^^ haha it's the swimming and bike that in worried about first, hopefully the running will take care of itself ;)

    On a serious note, I do need to up my distances for swimming and running, I almost need to cut swimming out of my weekend training again do more in my weekday sessions and leave Sunday mornings clear for a good long run. Recently trying to both a swim and a run and get out for a second bike ride means I'm probably getting three low quality sessions in rather than one high quality.

    Still, I trained for over 19 hours last week, not including core weights sessions in the gym for about 2 hours!

    bloody hell that's a lot of training. i don't know how you manage to fit that in

  • Training for IM? Bollocks to that. You only need to train for long races.

    training is going ok. apart from being ill for the whole of April.

    i have lost 6 kgs in a year. 4 since january.

  • IM Switzerland is awesome! Good luck. It wasn't my fastest time but probably my best performance. Careful on the descents though, IIRC someone had a bad fall a couple of riders behind me going at 70+ kmph through a village.

  • Pretty good day at Windsor Triathlon today 2.18.52, in hindsight I'm a bit dissappointed with both my bike and run times, 1.07 and 42, my power was 10 watts lower than planned, so that's one I can work on, and the run was a combination of not pushing myself hard enough, garmin use fail and that I was flagging a bit, I suspect that having angel with me on the run would have helped with both the pushing and the energy levels.

  • Actually any religious conviction is shown to help.. doesn't have to be one with angels.

  • A bit of advice from those with Tri experience. I've been asked to do the bike leg of the South Cerney triathlon this weekend and having never done this before I'm looking forward to it, but am slightly concerned about sharing the road with large numbers of, how shall I say this, people with less than adequate bike handling skills.

    I've stumbled across the odd Tri when I've been out and about on the fixed gear and chuckled at the lack of speed and general weaving levels, however, I am likely to be starting my ride amongst the middle markers as my swimming friend is probably a middle marker himself, so I'm a bit concerned about going full tilt on my TT bike through crowds of wobblers.

    I'm debating just taking the road bike just to give myself more chance of avoiding Kamikazes, but obviously the TT would be faster. Am I over thinking this or will the roads be so over crowded the advantage of the TT bike will be lost?

    Thanks for any guidance.

  • It depends on the course, size of waves, traffic etc...

    Even on congested routes, as long as you keep your head up, overtake with plenty of room, shout at people to keep left, and slow down for sharp turns and pinch points, you should be fine.

    I.e. don't ride like it's a TT or crit.

  • In general TT bikes are a bad idea whatever the course & conditions.

    However most triathletes are well aware they have no bike skills and stay well away other racers. If you know what your doing, you'll be fine.
