Isn't there some rule about no fixed gear in mass start events (ie. not just individual race organisers). Not sure but I believe it extends to plain old cycling events too?
Raced Helvellyn on Sunday. No swimming or cycling for 18 months, and no running for 3 so was very happy just to get up " the struggle".

It's certainly a BTF rule, you must have freewheels and 2 brakes. Not sure about the bike road race rules, but I'd be surprised if they're different.

This, I used to row in pink and there are few things more satisfying than beating those who mocked you on the start-line :) Nowadays a large portion of my tri kit is yellow and printed with flowers.
There were a few at helvellyn who took pink to a slightly more disturbing level... http://www.sportsunday.co.uk/photo16088395.html

Just wondering, do people find that riding fixes help their tri/bike training?

Anyone know about transferring london triathlon places?
Can't use shoulder for a couple of weeks. -

It's unlikely that they will answer any emails - best bet is someone pretends to be you.

Hmm, thought as much.

I'm sure there are plenty of people that would happy to part with a bit of cash for your place. I can ask on a slevless forum if you like.

Can't use shoulder for a couple of weeks.i think you get asked at the start to produce photo id to collect your race chip so don't think its that easy. i saw a thread on this on a tri forum. let me see if i can dig it out.

Yes, I don't actually use it explicitly as a training tool, but I used my fixed to commute, occasionally tour, and train when the weather is really nasty in winter but I still want to get out. The main benefits are those that sheldon lists as applying to riding in general such as removing the instinct to coast, but I also find it increases my ability in the hills. If I had the money/space I'd add a fixed TT bike to the stable (ideally replicating my position on the geared TT) and use it for evening 10s...

Yeah, time flying... next few years may be tricky to get there! Enjoy the ride tomorrow, you're coming back stronger I bet. Which is brilliant. Sending hugs your way from us both here.

So continuing my stream of noob questions... Water bottle or not on 31 klm course? Also, should I bother changing from my rubinos to the puncture prone ultremos that are marginally quicker? Bearing in mind this is a closed path following the rowing pond?

Do you train with fluids at that distance? I don't bother for short races, and only take on water in transition, if at all.
Tyres? Marginal gains...

Having long fingernails gives you a little extra to pull with on the swim, but extra weight on the bike. Grow them before the race and bite them off when you start the bike leg.

Well, yeah, but I rarely train just to that distance. If i think about I'm normally thirsty for the first 5 mins, then forget about it until 40-50 mins has past... Guess I'l just throw 200 ml into the bottle just incase.
cheers

I would say probably... if you've not done one before then it'll be nice to have the option to drink if you need. By the time you've done a few races you'll have worked out what works for you in terms of when you do and don't drink for yourself.
As for the tyres, you aren't going to win anyway (I doubt) so the couple of seconds it'll save you probably isn't worth the hassle. That said, I'm never going to win either and I still race on full TT setup with a disc and all sorts of carbon that I can't really afford.
They should dq for pink bodysuits though...
