London's Tweed Run - a ride that spawned others across the world - is back on April 10th.

The quirky, fashionable event was first staged in London last year with 250 tweed-clad riders setting out from Saville Row. It inspired other events world-wide including in Boston, San Francisco, Chicago and most recently Washington D.C.

The Tweed Run is a social bicycle ride through London streets with all riders sporting 1920s and 30s cycling attire, or tweed from current collections such as the Dashing Tweeds cyclewear.

Participants can expect a day of leisurely riding in the company of fellow ladies and gentlemen dressed in plus-fours, Harris tweed jackets, merino wool team jerseys, silk cravats and jaunty flat caps.

Jacqui Shannon, part of the double act behind the event, said: "The goal of the day is to have a bit of fun riding through London and show it's possible to cycle whilst looking stylish. Dapper gents and elegant ladies will be dressed with panache as prizes will be up for grabs including awards for most dapper chap, best moustache and most gentlemanly behaviour on the day."

The ride is free to enter and participants will be able to register online from 27th February. Participation will be limited to 400 riders.

The 14-mile Tweed Run will depart from the heart of London at midday. The route will weave past a number of London landmarks including Trafalgar Square, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, and St Paul's Cathedral. The ride finishes in Bishopsgate with a Swing band party.

Co-organiser Ted Young-Ing said: "This ride is a truly unique experience, and we're pleased to bring it back to the street of London again this year.
"As in 2009, the Tweed Run will benefit Bikes4Africa and closer to the date, we are excited to be launching a number of limited edition products, in collaboration with some major brands."

    What's your problem Em?!

  • What's your problem?

    The tweed itches him.

  • He is the problEm.

  • Though its who wants to go if they manage to register to get a place :)

Can you actually imagine that people wouldn't turn up and join in if this were the case? The numbers limit is probably just as a safety limitation to prevent it being too heavily over-subscribed and dangerous.

    From the 2009 thread.
