  • ...Hype is hype, doesn't mean anything, getting annoyed about who gets the hype isn't an avenue worth pursuing.

    Very true, good point.

  • I know, I know, it's controversial. Maybe a top 3 not in order: Dermot, Fearne (either cotton or britain) and chris moyles.

ah, i see, you're joking! very funny :)

  • Yeah there's a lot of hype around him, but Dermot O'Leary is still the greatest TV presenter of his generation.

This is a joke right? My towel would make a better tv presenter. Zero charisma, zero personality and fucking annoying

Didn't realise that Chris Morris co wrote it with Jessie Armstrong and Sam Bain, that made me just a little bit more excited about seeing it now!

  • Stupid terrorists. Not exactly subtle. The ones that killed people on tubes and a bus a few summers weren't stupid, at all, but extremely well co-odinated and cunning. Can't see where the comedy lies, just the usual shock-horror Daily Mail-baiting tactics.

Can't ever get excited about Chris Morris' stuff. Don't know why. Sort of nearly funny but lacking in a certain je ne sais quoi. Too clever-by-half. I liked the stupid over-the-top Newsy Graphics on the Day Today. They were funny. Reality has totally reflected art in that, they've gone bonkers on the news with that now. Some of the anchorman stuff he did himself was great. But remember how you felt when you first saw Nathan Barley? I felt let down. And the Paedogeddon type specials always just annoyed, I couldn't watch more than five minutes of them. I don't think he's the unsurpassed genius that C4 believe he is, who gave him carte blanche to do anything he likes, whenever it suits him, allegedly. (This is the channel that around 2000-2005 thought that Dermot O'Leary was, literally, god's gift to TV presentation, and would foist him onto productions that may or may not have suited him, in order to keep him visible, as a condition for the production securing broadcast. Alledgedly. And the same channel that has done pretty much the same thing with that godawful Big Brother woman, who is fucking annoying now please stop and get rid of her!). You see where I'm going with this? C4 isn't the best arbiter of what's good. It really isn't. Alright so they're probably the best out there, but still not great. Not mindblowing. Just OK. And it's your money, since they are a public service broadcaster, subsidised.

Can't remember the last time I laughed at anything on telly that was trying to make me laugh. Maybe I'm just not amused by it. I'd rather watch the latest David Attenborough and laugh at the funny monkeys. Or the news. Now that shit really is funny. And not just the bullshit that passes for 'news', but the whole presentation is hilarious. The way that Louisa Preston is so conscious of her wonky hooter that she constantly twists her head this way and that to try and make it less noticeable, but never looks straight at the camera. Or how weather presenters always waggle their left elbows when they're trying to look animated. Have a look out for that. Its mesmerising. Or how Emily Maitliss has suddenly gawn all poshe since she got a newsnight job after being just middle of the road on South East News for ages. And that whiny dude who does econmic meltdown scaremongering, what a complete cunt. Fucking fakes. I suppose I've got Chris Morris and Charlie Brooker to thank for making all that stuff look like what it is, bloody hilarious.

Hope I'm wrong and the film's great. But I'm not holding out much hope. It'll be nearly funny. And quite clever and thought provoking, in an 'oooh we're actually quite hypocritical aren't we?' sort of navel-gazing way. Big fucking yawn.

Stop over analyzing stuff ... you either find it funny or you don't.

    Thanks.

  • It's alright, there'll be a new film from the writers of 'Superbad' coming out soon.

  • I watched it the other night and it was really enjoyable, lots of 'lol' moments. I thought it was an impressive film-making debut for Morris (and a brave topic to address), and the four main characters were all very well played.
Having said that, the film seemed slightly confused as at what it wanted to be - it flipped back and forth too readily between being the slapstick comedy of four incompotent idiots and the sobering phenomenon of home-grown terrorism.
That's my two cents anyway, didn't mean to sound so much like some wanky film critic...sorry!

Oh, and I'm firmly in the 'Morris is a genius' camp. Not so sure about Dermot O'Leary though!

  • Good stuff!
How did you get to see it? Didn't think it was being shown anywhere yet!

Yeah, I just saw today that it's not released until May. My mate works in the industry, he can get access to stuff like this pretty legitimately I think!

  • Proper trailer just been released:

Made me laugh out loud quite a few times, even more excited about this film now!

  • Interesting that they should include what would seem to be quite a significant twist/spoiler towards the end just before Toploader kicked in...
Though I suppose that argument is countered by a line like "Well, they're suicide bombers... it was inevitable."

  • Very much looking forward to iT.

  • snarf!

  • Making a film that has the intention of presenting the "light hearted side" (as if there is one) of suicide bombing - which is nothing more than the mass slaughter of innocent lives, is not just insensitive but sick and evil. I can't believe how low movie producers will go to "make a buck".

To my way of thinking this is no better than ripping the jewelry off a dead corpse and pawning it.

The making of such a movie about such a montsrous crime can not be condoned nor justified. Suicide bombing does not deserve understanding nor explortion via the use of comedy.

Red arrows or not - anyone who considers watching this film is selfish and sick and has obvioulsy not had their cosy life destroyed by an act of terrorism.
    **
Would the producers might next consider making a film about the misery associated with peodophillia? Perhaps they can find a funny side to the young lives that are destroyed through this vile perpetration that they are subjected to.**

This guy needs to watch Brasseye...

  • Saw this last night.... fantastic film. The guy from phone jacker was easily the best guy in it.

  • It was utter shite.

  • It was utter shite.

Maybe you saw the wrong film.

  • Saw it tonight, loved it.

  • I love Chris Morris but the film's trailer seems a teeny weeny bit slapstickish and not the really dry, acerbic wit I've fallen in love with. Is the film better than the trailer?

  • Is the film better than the trailer?

    Nope

  • Is the film better than the trailer?

    Absolutely yes.
