  • I still have your wine gums damo.
Still puzzled about how you did wind up behind me?
I remember passing wools at some roundabout where he was taking a break, and asking for you.
You guys came into Dunwich together, no?

  • Yeah I think 2 out of 1200 + is pretty good going.

So did anyone figure out what happened with accidents and stuff?
There was talk about a road block that made 300 people stop. I hope everyone came out of it ok?

I think Henry and I got caught up in this, quite early? I think it was a junction just around a blind corner and people stopping to check maps and it just backed up quickly.

We didn't see too many cars, also didn't see too many people who listened to calls but I guess we're not all roadies ... ;p

    Still was an awesome ride!

i'm still puzzled as well. there were 4 long stops we made:
van, wools shout in the dark, magical tea, dropout express.

and we took a detour (great navigational skills by matt got us back on track really quickly).

i should look into acquiring some more stamina and bigger htfu capacity.

  • Ah, 4 stops yo say! That's how. I only properly stopped 2 times, once at the food stop and once around the 95 mile mark in Framlingham.

I know Oliver doesn't approve, but I liked the fact that I had a Garmin, and so did others.

  • That's excellent, Niall, so glad you've got the bug!

    This wasn't supposed to happen!

  • ^Ha!

  • OK, so who hasn't paid for the coach? I know a couple of people rode for free, if those people find the time it was £8 per seat and my paypal is paypal@lfgss.com

I'd rather people just pay without me hassling them as I find hassling people for money socially awkward and vulgar.

    kthxbye

  • kill them.
    kill them with love.

  • ...magical tea.

I used to do a bit of that at Glastonbury; though I'm not sure I'd want to ride on it. You prolly lost time avoiding obstacles that weren't really there.

  • I absolutely loved riding Dunwich but there was not enough of the below. I've taken the courtesy shown to fellow riders in TNRCs, SSTCs and other forum rides for granted.

LFGSS. We roll safe. We roll deep.

While I kept pointing out potholes, shouting "car back" and doing the hand signals and all that, I think no one got it.

    ^
yeah. there wasn't a lot of warning or thought about cars approaching from behind.

and lots of people meandering all over the road.

  • While I'm here, cheers for the tinnies, Damo. Legend! :)

  • I'm sad to have missed all you guys. Passed TSK and the van before anyone had arrived. Was going to stop but I had a personal vendetta going with my geared companion so kept my head down and pedalled on.

Missed the rest stop by 30 miles so had to hop the fence of a school and fill up water supplies from a little drinking fountain. Then had two hours sleep till 4. Got onto the beach around 6.30. Bacon sarnies and tea in that little village towards the end were a low point for me as I'd left my wallet in my bag of clean clothes which, irritatingly, was in a car at Dunwich. Cycled through the crowd of happy breakfasters with a tear in my eye.

Fixed is fine, in fact it was a pleasure. I was running 44/17 and have no leg aches to complain of. You guys bitching about tired knees need to take some of your own advice and HTFU.

Anyone else fancy another epic night ride soon? I've properly got the bug.

  • For a while I rode with a group that was yelling out "Hill!" in a similar way to "pothole" and "car" each time we reached an incline. Cycling comedy at it's best.

  • I know Oliver doesn't approve, but I liked the fact that I had a Garmin, and so did others.

Booooooring ... do it with a routesheet next time! Much more fun! :)

  • Did anyone notice there was a lot of farting going on at the beach. Is flatulence a phenomenon common place with long distance cycling?

Getting lost is no fun for me. Been there, done that.

  • I felt that doing it painlessly with a GPS took a lot of the magic out of it. My last two have been an entertaining mix of massive navigation failures and stopping and checking the route sheet vs distance as I went along.
Knowing, on approach to junctions, which way you were going to go, and just sweeping through without slowing kept thing smooth and quick but nowhere near as interesting.

this should answer this for you:

    This. :)

  • That said, it was lovely to have 5 and a half hours of non stop Whoooooooooosh

  • I had a couple of funny garmin moments, where I overshot and like 30 or so people followed me, one of them shouting "Who's following who here?".

Anyway, next thing you tell me is that the bus was fun and integral part of the ride. Again, I am glad that I took the easy way out of that and just checked into the village pub :)

  • Going to do a Friday and ride home next year, surely the most elegant solution of all :P

  • I admire that. Not sure if I'm good enough, or more specifically whether my knees are good enough ... maybe next year.

  • +1 to the Whooshing. Magic is overrated.

Already my reactionary "Nope, never again" is becoming "Only with sufficient preparation"; though I'm still deciding whether or not hobbling home after caning out bears the mark of a pillock. Note to self: Wait for pain to subside before writing of event. Additional: Don't write anything at all, you'll only regret it later.

Dunno dunno, boring boring. I'm off to buy some gloves.

We're all on for the return journey next year then?

    Groans

  • I don't think I'll ever ride back, even if I could physically, I just lose the will. I am, however, up for a BBQ on the beach, perhaps some comfy rugs, a large urn of coffee and a restorative shoulder rub.
