  • i've lost my burrito. please keep an eye out for it.

  • Last time I saw that bike it was parked out the front of Chilangos!

Theres something fishy going on here.

  • Maybe you mistakenly rode your burrito home, Teddy...

i do love that place. mmmmmmm... tacos

  • I like Mercado on Stoke Newington Church Street http://www.mercado-cantina.co.uk/

    -1

Food not great, staff grumpy etc etc.

I have an unsatisfied addiction to mex and tex mex so this is instantly my fave thread.

    Bring on the suggestions.

  • El Camino on Portobello started off really well but quality seems to vary now. The chefs are really good though, it just depends which ones are there and how busy. Also my vegetarian friend was given a beef burrito. He was not happy.
Santos over the road is quite good but pricey.

  • I've visited El Camino on Brewer Street last week, quite tasty and prices are cheap enough considering it's in Soho.

It is open until stupid o'clock as well.

  • What's that place on Leather Lane? - market stall (catering van) I had some veggi bean burritos there, they were nice

Daddy Donkey. Only JUST freaking realised how close that is to my office. I am FAIL.

Not great but seriously not bad. Tacos were not that bad. Avoid the tortilla chips though.

If anyone knows a place to get real proper hand made thin tortilla chips do chime in.

  • aye certainly not bad for van food!

  • I'm sure this is near my office: http://london.mestizomx.com/

I need to take Mal to the Polish Mexican place.

  • What is this shit with putting guacamole in tacos? Seriously?

    I miss:

  • mercado in stoke newington is pretty bad. i had their mexcian beer, they serve it with ice cubes and some kind bloody mary mix - sick in a glass

It's called a Micheleda dude - really quite a popular and authentic drink in mexico (not sure how they make it at mercado, place has always looked a little sketchy to me!) - I have fond memories of sitting at a church atop a hill in San Cristobal De Las Casas drinking too many of these!

Wahaca do a good one with Habanero in.

Mexican food in London is a bit up and down - my favourite Tacos are at Taqueria on Westbourne Grove, although the Tacos at El Camino were pretty good versions of the USA style truck stop Tacos - nice and greasy, they do a nice fish taco too.

Burritos etc are ten a penny now and the general standard of them here is only average - The meat always just ends up tasting a bit plain, with anything thats 'slow cooked' ending up just tasting boiled. Most places need to sort out their Pico De Gallo, Guac and Tomatillo salsa though, they always end up being lacklustre. It'd be nice to see somewhere to Chile Rellenos, or Mexican Chorizo Burritos - but its always just Steak, Grilled Chicken or Pulled Pork - although Poncho No 8 in Spitalfields does a decent Barbecoa...

I went to a new joint in Victoria called Picante the otherday - really well tucked away, only open at lunch and mainly frequented by office workers, but great Carnitas - best i've tried in London (could be a bit crisper round the edges) and for a 'Burrito' shop, it was quite refreshing to be able to have Corn Tortillas (double hulled as well) instead of flour - always much nicer IMO.

  • Mercado is grim. Food is shitty, cocktails suck. An american mate of mine identified the problem to me - English variants on Mexican food suck because we HAVE NO MEXICANS.

There's a good street food place in Soho which I thought was OK but I've never had a good burrito here. Gah.

  • El Camino from Portobello Rd are about to or have just opened a new restaurant in Soho, they'll serve beers/Cocktails and burritos until 03:00am.

I was in last week on one of my incredibly infrequent trips to London and it was pretty good. I'd definitely go again.

The food bill was around £22 and the drinks bill wasn't a kick in the arse off £200. Ouch.

    Ben right (Rae's friend?)

Definitely not El Buen Sabor on Valencia St right?? Hands Down my favourite Burrito ever. Dude we should go for beer and tacos soon.

  • Taqueria on Westbourne Grove. Had the tripe soup last night, was delicious.

El Camion has always been a bit hit or miss for me.

  • I dont mind the Benitos Hat burito's on Goodge St. Reasonably tasty and filling. Could def. improve the guac and pico bits though.

slightly OT but a Chicken Biriyani from doughmasters round the corner is waaay tastier, just not as filling

Yeah dude, they need to buy some Limes!

Oh man, that one and the Cantos Taqueria - so good. So so good.

Rae's back pretty soon, we should definitely hook that up. If nothing else it'll fully annoy her about the power of fixed gear bikes.

  • cheers i am going to try out that picante joint.

i thought chilango was a rip off. dude tried to merk me over some peppers

  • Chipotle on TCR.. Very buff. Not extortionate either

  • Green and Red, RedChurch St. (off Bricklane).
Not sure now, but the bar manager used to live with me, and that place
was Ace in cocktails. By far the best tequilla bar in London.
The rest was to the expensive side, so no opinion there.
IMO Mexican food is not meant to be fancy/expensive. Not a burrito.

  • Love Mexican food but hate montezuma's revenge. Same with Indian and other spicy foods.

  • My new favourite thread.

    Mexican food night out?
